A new project we did with our camp this year is the Plush Video Game Controller project. The campers used www.gamestarmechanic.com to learn about gameplay, mechanics, design, story, and visuals in video game design, then programmed their own games. They then designed controllers to match the theme of each of their games, and helped sew the controllers together and stuff them. To finish them off, Wave students hot glued aluminum foil buttons on the controllers and the campers got to play their games on the projector. They got to demonstrate their controllers at the showcase and had a ton of fun with the project! +Make:

Check out our cool diaper potted soil science project! We cut open disposable diapers and shook out the small super absorbent polymers, in this case sodium polyacrylate, then added water. After mixing potted soil with the polymers, we created potted soil that holds water well and shrinks when the water is absorbed by a plant, signaling to the kids it needs more water! The kids had a blast painting their pots, mixing the polymers, learning about the science of diapers, and planting their seeds.
