If you have the Kickstarter bonus tile, the Frog God, you can get around being blocked on the ascending spaces (paying a coin to do so). It is just a single piece of card so you could easily print it out if you missed the Kickstarter.

Thinking about your problem with contention, the Kickstarter backers got a Frog God tile, that you can put workers on, that allows you to delay an action until the end of the turn, pay one coin and then take that action. This prevents the ascending-worker spaces from beginning completely blocked by a high worker level. Certainly doesn't resolve all the conflict, but might help the two of you a bit (hopefully enough to keep it ;))

As we discussed before, I think Clash of Cultures is a lot better choice of 4x game to play as peaceniks. I don't think it as good as Eclipse overall, but it is a lot less fiddly!

Looks to have "fixed" Machi Koro, but sadly is much too expensive once postage is added (UK). Definitely something I'll pick up when I see it retail though!

The flipping looks a bit fiddly. Definitely sounds like it would work better as a computer games...

I played my Kickstarter copy a couple of weeks ago and managed to make a lot more mistakes than I usually do. You also managed more than usual in your diffusion, I think - the rules could be a little better, but I think the main issue is that Ryan's games usually innovate mechanics and thus you can't relate to them quite as quickly as in other games which are more similar to older games. That said, I really enjoyed the game and loom forward to playing again properly! I'm one of the people who really appreciates the more aggressive worker placement, so it suits me down to the ground!
