Originally built in 1929, our historic luxury hotel was restored using black-and-white photographs from the 1930s. The photos were used to duplicate entire rooms, down to the detailing in the draperies, murals, and even carpeting.

No one celebrates St. Patrick's Day quite like Chicago. Watch as our river famously turns green in the spirit of the holiday!

You never know what hidden gems you might stumble across in our historic hotel. The breathtaking Spanish Tea Court was inspired by the era of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella and decorated with Spanish Majolica tile. Photo via @crgshprg.

Rooms are a bit small, amenities are lacking, and there are obvious corners cut to save time and money (no caulking around the shower head...not even a cap). The sheets are arranged in a very odd way.... Mattress pad, fitted sheet, comforter, another fitted sheet, only sideways. Not bad, per se, just odd. The pool is awesome, though. Staff is also very friendly and courteous. Room service is exorbitantly priced for the things to get in a hotel with this free amenities. Seriously, $12 for a bowl of oatmeal?

The building is beautiful. The staff have all been extremely friendly. Room was spotless. And of course, it's in a great location. Definitely impressed with this place.

The Intercontinental is a very lovely hotel. The level of service was excellent. I wasn't thrilled that the WiFi is only free for reward members (I am one, so it wasn't a problem personally for me, but free WiFi for everyone would be nice).

I appreciate your feedback on our wi-fi and I will personally make sure your comment is given to our hotel management to review. I hope that you will come back and see us again soon! Amazing location right on the Mile. Booked through Priceline, and upon arrival was told that my room would have two double beds. The front desk was friendly and helpful and we upgraded to a King bed for a small upcharge with no issue. Room was clean, comfortable, and spacious. The noise from Michigan Avenue was crazy loud, but if you aren't expecting that you're fooling yourself! Easy walking distance to the Red Line station on Grand, which took us wherever we needed to go. Would recommend staying here if you value location, don't mind the noise, and don't want to stay in a run-of-the-mill motel.

Rooms were great! Quiet. Well renovated. Gym was good. No hot tub tho. Staff could be a little short at times which I know is normal in Chicago and east coast in general but still.

While my 4 sisters and I felt that the hotel was beautiful and the staff attentive and friendly, we were disappointed to find that the handicapped accessible rooms and entrance were less than ideal. Two in our party are handicapped with one requiring a walker and limited ability to walk. The side entrance while posted as accessible really isn't unless one is able to track down someone to unlock the lift once you open the exterior door where we found the automatic door not working. We got 1 handicapped accessible room and one regular. Originally they had us in two different towers although I had requested us to be near each other. Rooms were switched and we ended up in rooms across from each other. While the handicapped room's bathroom was bigger and had a rail in the tub, the tub itself was regular height... Not accessible. Also the bed was comfy but was quite high for someone with a handicap. My sister had to crawl and roll onto it with assistance. A wheelchair transfer would not have worked. The exercise area and pool are also not accessible. We realize that the pool is old/vintage, but my sister couldn't even sit poolside with us. The history and architecture of the hotel are wonderful and I'm sure it is difficult to retrofit ramps etc. but it was challenging.

Dear Barbara, I appreciate you taking the time to write this candid review of your stay with us. You have brought a very valid concern to our attention and I apologize that we had not addressed it sooner for your sisters comfort. I will bring this review to the attention of our hotel management. Perhaps there is still a bit of retrofitting that needs to be done to our accessible rooms. I am glad to hear that the 5 of you enjoyed your stay and found our hotel beautiful. You've certainly given me a lot to consider. Hopefully in the next round of renovations we can make those improvements. We hope you enjoyed your visit to the Windy City and please join us again. Sincerely, Jacquelyn Jenke Guest Relations Management
