There's just no way this hotel should be rated 4.5 stars. They quietly sneak in a $125 charge per day on your credit card without saying a word about it. Then everything you touch has a 1000% mark up on it and I mean there total crooks! A large bottle of regular evian water they pay a dollar for is ten dollars in your room and a cheeseburger is 19.00 and valet parking is $65 a day plus gratuity. The rooms are small the walls are thin and it's JUST NOT WORTH IT!!!

We paid almost 400 for our room and it was NOT worth the money at all. The room was smaller than any hotel room I've ever stayed in. It was decorated very vintage like - my grandma probably decorated it. It was a cleaner version of a Super 8, basically. You have to pay 20 dollars for wifi, which is SO stupid. Half of the other hotels give you it for free. Parking is overpriced - $60 a night. Also, around midnight we walked out onto the front of the hotel and there was a drunk guy harassing us and a group of girls. We eventually went inside to tell security and they finally came out 5 minutes later....and then blamed it on us! They still took the guy inside - never saw him again. The lobby is really the only extravagant part. The rest of the hotel does not match. The floor we stayed on was super small. I suggest staying at the Intercontinental O'hare, which is brand new and cheaper - and decorated very modern and way better than this piece of crap hotel. The gift shop is overpriced as well - $10 for a small ice cream? REALLY? It's pathetic.

Nice place, awful staff. I spent two nights here because my company booked it. At first I had a good impression: the room was clean and nice. Nothing special for that price, just OK. Three weeks later I contacted the hotel staff because of some problems related with my payment. The person answering the emails was very rude and did not really answer my questions. At the end I discovered I had been charged $14 for some cashews I did NOT take from the minibar. I understand they can mistakenly charge some overpriced cashews. What I do not understand is the fact that they treat a customer (or any other person) with such disrespect. I travel a lot around the world and have had issues in a few places, from high-end resorts to low budget hostels, but always solved them in a friendly and respectful way. But apparently these people think they can run an overpriced hotel, overcharge you and then treat you like s**t.

I was at a meeting and the hotel staff would not give my wife a key or let her in the room when she locked herself out. They were dismissive and rude to her. I have stayed at many Intercontinental Hotels and all have been fantastic; however, the Chicago property is not worthy of being a Travel Lodge. I say this not because of the 'security issue' as the front desk explained it, but also because it's just not standard with the brand ... and the brand has diminished significantly. Other properties have been very lovely and elegant ... this was cheap, poorly decorated, over priced, and the desk staff infuriated me.

On Sunday December 29th 2013 at 9;00pm, I received a call from my girlfriend who was staying at this hotel. Her boyfriend and she had a fight and he kicked her out of their room. I called this hotel to try to pay for a room for her or to get them to help her in some way because she didn't have any cash with her. The desk manager "Adrian" was extremely rude to her and when I called he told me that my money wasn't accepted at their hotel and that me or my friend were "not the kind of clientele" they wanted at the InterContinental. ( I guess they prefer abusive men as clients) He also lied and said he had never even talked with my friend. Keep in mind... I wasn't even staying there I was just trying to help my friend and give this ridiculous manager money for her room. He hung up on me, I called back...he insinuated that my friend was a prostitute or something and again told me MY MONEY was not accepted there and I would NEVER be allowed to stay there if I came to Chicago. and hung up on me again. I never have been told "NO" when I tried to give money to someone until now. I am planning on writing letters to all the Women's organizations and the attorney general of Illinois over this! This was a case of a hotel manager treating a guest and potential client with sexual discrimination. And women being thrown out of there rooms are most likely in abusive situations and help should have been given to my friend especially when someone offers to pay for it!!!! Ignoring abuse is the same as administering it!!! This hotel is terribly managed by rude people who think they are better then the rest of us and don't care about other human beings especially women!!

We arrived at the hotel at 3:30 but our room was not ready. We waited for over 2 hours and after repeated inquiries were finally assigned a room in the old part of the hotel. The lobby is ugly and has no place to sit so we were very uncomfortable during our wait. The Michael Jordan restaurant is dark and depressing. The decor is sadly lacking and the food is worse. It is the only restaurant in the hotel so when the weather was inclement we were forced to go out to find decent food. Inadequate check-in and front desk staffing...long lines and nowhere to queue. The staff were all wonderful but the management is very poor. We expected so much more from a hotel of this standing and were extremely disappointed. We would not recommend this hotel.

It's cold outside, so cozy up to some in-room dining and a glass of vino.
