The Hero of Seattle didn't save lives by shooting a gun. He used his head.

"A U.S. service member walked out of a base in southern Afghanistan before dawn Sunday and started shooting Afghan civilians, according to residents and Afghan and NATO officials. Villagers showed an Associated Press photographer 15 bodies, including women and children, and said they were all killed by the American."

"The sun is continuing its active streak this week, firing off another solar flare late Thursday (March 8) from the same region that produced this week's strong solar storm."

Maybe we'll be hit tomorrow?

Look to the West on Feb. 22nd, right after sunset

I highly recommend you spend the early evening on Wednesday, Feb. 22nd gazing into the Western sky. Right after sunset, Mercury will be on the horizon, as well as a delicate crescent moon, bright Jupiter and Venus.

Take some photographs tomorrow and let me know. I'll reshare a bunch.

Life with Cats: Part I-don't-know-how-do-you-expect-me-to-think-on-days-like-this

Someone left the downstairs door open. My cats are @$$holes. One of said @$$holes got downstairs and attacked the semi-feral cat who stays in the basement. They were in the ceiling, and I had to extract a hissing, spitting, biting, fluffy-tailed @$$hole from the rafters.
Fun. Fun. Fun. breathing

An Iridescent Cloud Over Colorado

Why would a cloud appear to be different colors? A relatively rare phenomenon known as iridescent clouds can show unusual colors vividly or a whole spectrum of colors simultaneously. These clouds are formed of small water droplets of nearly uniform size. When the Sun is in the right position and mostly hidden by thick clouds, these thinner clouds significantly diffract sunlight in a nearly coherent manner, with different colors being deflected by different amounts. Therefore, different colors will come to the observer from slightly different directions. Many clouds start with uniform regions that could show iridescence but quickly become too thick, too mixed, or too far from the Sun to exhibit striking colors. This iridescent cloud was photographed above Boulder, Colorado.
