Heavy session! The Immortal is planning his own death, the Hunter sacrificed everything she had to keep her morality, and the Oracle was betrayed by her own cat! This was definitely the Empire Strikes Back session of our Urban Shadows Trilogy (which, as it turns out, will have four parts).

We played the starting module of Lords of Gossamer and Shadow and it was pretty awesome! (even though I didn't get to backstab anyone)

Our discussion on who to ally with for the end conflict took two times longer than the end conflict itself - exquisite balance of rivalry, teamwork and paranoia achieved!
Lords of Gossamer and Shadow is a reboot of the Amber Diceless system. The Chronicles of Amber is a great book series that has a special place in my heart (and in our house: our cats are called Cor...

When it comes to a Monster of the Week one shot, no-prep full improv games are the way to go, in my opinion! The Playbooks have so many cool story elements, it's a crying shame not to put them front and center.

I tried it out this weekend. This comic book-inspired game started off with the theft of the Baghdad Battery and ended in an all-out showdown in an unstable nuclear reactor. Also: musketeers!
On our RPG House Con I had billed this one shot as friendly for beginners, and indeed I had ended up with three players either rusty in roleplaying or new to the Apocalypse World system. The one ex...

btw, if you run with a session that uses the Changeling playbook from my drivethru store, I'd be interested to see the report.

It was definitely a subversion of MotW. It was great fun to play all the ghosts! I tried so hard to figure out a good match for your character that I was (pardon the pun) sweating bullets :)

Our Urban Shadows mini-campaign has reached its epic conclusion! We were pretty surprised at how much story (and feels!) we managed to squeeze into four sessions. This is one cool game.

Highlights this final session were our Hunter seizing her role as a major power player in the city, the Spectre choosing closure over revenge in the Fae Court, the Oracle and the Wolf talking about love (and cats), and the assisted suicide of our Immortal. Phew!

Our second Intercontinental Urban Shadows session turned out very intense! I wrote love letters for all PCs to replace opening moves this session - a great way to push the story hard. Really loving this world.

I had never really watched an A*World like game played and after watching this I've seen parts of other World games.

Thank you. Julia is a wonderful MC. I learned a lot watching her.

Intercontinental Urban Shadows, part I!

We’re all still getting our bearings, but this session was already a lot of fun. Running US feels like wrestling with a multi-tentacled chaos beast. The sprawling cityscape stories from this hack push me out of my comfort zone – I like my stories small and tight. But I can’t deny that this is the first AW hack where the world feels alive and the possibilities endless. This looks like long-term campaign gold to me.

+ I love debts, factions, corruption - all really great additions that push to a certain kind of story
+- I'm torn on the XP system because it seems to promote talking to NPC's over PC's (if not all factions are represented in your characters). I love xp for debts, though
+ I didn't like the start of session moves, with five players (and with additional archetype moves) it takes a long time before you can start to play. Next session I think I'll start with Love letters instead.

My Monster of the Week game featured four hunters pushing themselves far out of their comfort zones to rescue the flirty, lonely, judgmental and voyeuristic ghosts that had bonded with them. It was awesome!
I ran my first game of Monster of the Week! It was a little different than your typical MotW session. My take on Monster of the Week There's a few things that always spoke to me in typical Monster ...

This is the second of three slots we have booked to try out games submitted in the RPG Geek 48-hour RPG contest. We'd love to try a few out. Feel free to join us!

Don't worry if you can only make one of the three slots, and also don't feel bad if you want to play in all three. The more the merrier and we can always create an extra table. Can't run out of space on Google Hangouts!

Once you've joined, feel free to use this event page to already decide on what we're going to play so we can read the game in advance, and maybe already pick a GM (where applicable).
