Nowadays guns do not need to be used in this context instead we can use economic, psychological and monopolies to play exactly the same role. As I mentioned before, it's the Nazi mentality that I am referring to, not the act of using weapons.
Regarding censorship, in microsoft maps you can find the "Persian Gulf" whereas on Google Maps the name of the persian gulf has been censored. These things (although unimportant) display the political and corrupted tendencies at a company.
By the way, I am by no means a big fan of Microsoft. As options are limited between two evils I chose the weaker one at any point because they will be more flexible and it stops a monopoly from getting bigger.
Think of it how Israel balanced the power between Iraq and Iran during their war despite having bad relationships with both. It ensures no one of them got too powerful. It's the same concept here.
Realistically when it comes to email providers there are only a hand few... hmmm, I think there is an opening in the market for an email service, perhaps one with content being stored in encrypted form since the browser improvements in js/ajax would allow for client side encryption/decryption. Imagine if your content were not readable by the providers or government. If only I had the time!
