It's quite obvious. If you vote Yes when what you want is more powers, not independence, you might get independence. You should only vote yes if you want independence.

The three dimensions to Alistair Carmichael's speech: a positive vision of the UK, incoherent nationalist ideas and future powers
This article first appeared on Liberal Democrat Voice Alistair Carmichael's keynote speech and subsequent question and answer session in Stirling today touched three different dimensions of the constitutional debate, the last of which should cheer any Liber...

In Full: Alistair Carmichael's New Year Speech - A positive vision of UK's achievements to contrast with the incoherent nationalist position
This is very long, but I thought it was worth posting in full. My analysis is here on Liberal Democrat Voice.  You can never really get the full flavour of a 14 page speech into a blog post. It's not always worth reading the whole thing, but this is well wr...

A polite request to all Scottish male politicians and political commentators
Scotland may be involved in a long and often bad-tempered referendum campaign, but there are still some issues that unite people across the political divide. You can guarantee that at least once a fortnight, I'll complain on Twitter about yet another panel ...

Quick review: The 7:39
So, after truly dreadful Festive television (with only a few exceptions like Doctor Who and Death comes to Pemberley), will the new season deliver anything worth watching? Well, this week is replete with decent stuff from several hours in the company of Pro...

What are you trying to say, here? It's quite clear what Willie means. If you want more powers for Scottish Parliament while remaining in the UK, then you need to vote No. If you want Yes, you will never get what you want.

SOOOO, David Cameron refuses to allow a vote for more devolution on the ballot paper, says it's YES or NO. Says reason is that it is too complicated for voters to understand.  panics when he realises that Yes vote is a real possible outcome, then says that you need to vote NO to get devolution powers. aye, sure, OK. That clears that up then!
It's like meeting a thug in an alley who threatens to rob you, you tell him you are a black belt, he then says he was only kidding, pulls cable ties from his pocket and asks, "can he cable tie your hands as a precaution as he wants to get passed you!"
Vote NO and hell mend us. What a stupid, easily led lot the 'bottlers together' camp are. If you vote NO you are handing all the powers you ever had to a man who tried to force you to vote NO in the first instance, NO as in you get nothing at all. AND we get stuffed by Westminster too!
THINK AHEAD, YOUR KIDS WILL ASK YOU HOW YOU VOTED. Better have a good reason ready when the banks pull the plug on the ever rising debt we keep asking for [2billion a week].

Rennard: How is the party going to get through this?
I've had a post in drafts for the last 3 days about the fallout from Alistair Webster's statement  but my heart has been so heavy that it's only now I feel able to complete it. I have to thank Lord Carlile of Berriew for his help in that regard. His stateme...

Review: Peter Pan, Edinburgh. Or, Allan Stewart makes my life
It's been our tradition in recent years to go to the Pantomime at the King's Theatre in Edinburgh, which always stars comedians Allan Stewart and Andy Gray and Grant Stott from Radio Forth. Usually I book the tickets at the last moment and get a seat up in ...

Willie Rennie: "In 20 years, they'll be glad they had nursery education at an early stage because it might just change their life chances"
There were extraordinary scenes in the Scottish Parliament this afternoon. First of all, the Scottish Liberal Democrats didn't even vote for their amendment, and nor did anyone else. They didn't have to, because the Scottish Government had taken a big step ...
