Equality keeps us honest. Our peers tell us who we are and how we are doing, providing that service in personal life that a free press does in a functioning society. Inequality creates liars and delusion. The powerless need to dissemble—that’s how slaves, servants, and women got the reputation of being liars—and the powerful grow stupid on the lies they require from their subordinates and on the lack of need to know about others who are nobody, who don’t count, who’ve been silenced or trained to please. This is why I always pair privilege with obliviousness; obliviousness is privilege’s form of deprivation. When you don’t hear others, you don’t imagine them, they become unreal, and you are left in the wasteland of a world with only yourself in it, and that surely makes you starving, though you know not for what, if you have ceased to imagine others exist in any true deep way that matters. This is about a need for which we hardly have language or at least not a familiar conversation. #WakeUpEarth

Consider something like obesity. It consists of a mix of different interplaying states of degree of complexity, some chaotic-generative and random, some emergent and self-organising, some stable, ordered and sustaining and some rigid and near-to or collapsing. #WakeUpKM

I am convinced that at present humanity is going through a bifurcation process due to information technology.

The great French historian Braudel has written: "Events are dust". This is only partially true. There are "well-defined events" which have shaped human history. A simple example is the neolithic bifurcation associated to an increased flow of energy, coming from the discovery of agriculture and metallurgy and leading to a complex hierarchical society.

#KMTools #KM #KM4Dev +PJ Buys Abstract
#DearCongress was prevalent within Twitter discourse during the 2013 U.S. government shutdown. The hashtag allowed a community to form by assembling around a common topic. What a group communicates through social networks cannot be separated from its context. This micro-analysis of #DearCongress utilizes discourse tracing through word clouds, guided by Bruns & Burgess’ concept of an ad hoc public. By looking at the commentary during a political and time stamped event, we can better understand the role discourse plays in group formation, evolution, and impact.
