Hi Rachel! I'm a teacher of English as a foreign language in Munich, Germany, who's just getting started specializing in teaching pronunciation and accent reduction. I'll definitely be getting your book in the near future for my own reference, and for potentially recommending to students. If your book didn't exist, I probably would have felt the need to write it myself someday, so thanks for saving me the work!

I'm just wondering if you have any pointers on how to help a student (L1 Italian) who has no musical ear at all to hear and reproduce the vowel sounds in English that are lacking from his L1. I'm at a loss as to how to get him to stop saying "ship" like "sheep" and so on. I'll definitely consider recommending your book to him!

Yup, I understand the why, I'm just struggling on the execution.  I'll have him try it as a schwa the next time I talk to him.

Entirely in agreement with this one.

Mark Greene has one clear reason we should all fight for gay rights. Homophobic prohibitions against male touch are hurting straight men as well.

The mother's response in this story just gave me seriously vindictive warm fuzzies. I never even knew warm fuzzies could feel vindictive! http://www.geekfill.com/2014/02/24/this-girl-did-this-after-the-boy-at-school-twanged-her-bra-what-followed-is-gold/#

+Laura Kohler then I will add my thought that the only way this would have gotten more awesome is if the mom had then asked her daughter something like, "Are your knuckles sore? Do you need some ice?"

Ooh, Lars, this is a really neat way to do a hideable Murphy bed!
We live in Manhattan where space is a premium. We are fortunate to have a playroom that also needs to double as a guest room. Conventional Murphy beds ...

I kinda want one of these, which is unusual for me, as I'm not a big gadget person. http://www.pryntcases.com/
Prynt is the first smartphone case printing instantly pictures. The product will soon be launched. In the mean time, you can subscribe on the website and be the first to know when it will be available.

As we approach Mother's Day, please take a moment to remember that not everyone had a happy childhood with a loving mother. Be considerate of those for whom "mother" is a triggering word with horrible associated memories. Not all women who gave birth are truly deserving of the title of "Mom".

Also, please take a moment to remember that not all mothers gave birth to their children. Whether by fostering, adoption, step-parenting, or surrogacy, many amazing women had to work hard to achieve the dream of becoming a Mom. Be considerate of the non-biological mothers, most of whom love their children every bit as much as the biological mothers.

Please remember to be kind to those mothers who are estranged from their children, and those children who are estranged from their parents. Rejection by a family member is one of the deepest wounds a heart can suffer.

Please remember to be kind to the mothers who are separated from their children due to incarceration or deployment, and doubly kind to the children whose mothers are incarcerated or deployed.

Finally, please take a moment to be extra kind to the mothers who have borne the burden no parents should be subjected to, that of outliving their own children. Two women of my acquaintance have lost their children to death this year, and I am especially mindful of the fact that a happy mothers day may not be possible for them.

Happy mothers day to those who are capable of having one, and count yourself fortunate. To those for whom this Sunday is fraught with sadness, trauma, or separation, you are not forgotten or alone.

Another interesting idea for subdividing a larger room.
I built the "Pax Room", a room in the living room entirely out of IKEA Pax closets, without any construction material other than furniture and it's movable

When I, as a Caucasian person, walk into an Asian restaurant and notice that I'm in the ethnic minority, I know odds are good that I'll get a fantastic meal. Takumi did not disappoint me! Anyone who doesn't realize that there's more to Japanese food than sushi should come here to broaden their culinary horizons. I will definitely be back!

I do love a good sushi-go-round! This one not only has typical maki and nigiri, but also has a top round for warm dishes with selections I usually associate with dim sum. Especially great for me was the large number of warm and cold vegetable dishes, since I'm a big veggie eater. I look forward to eating here again!

Three different stereos playing three different sorts of music in rooms that aren't sound isolated is far from relaxing. Throw in a telephone constantly ringing with an irritating ringtone, and it's downright annoying. Plus my nail technician wasn't that great. If I hadn't bought a Groupon for six months' flatrate, I doubt I'd be going back.
