147 years later, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland are as captivating as ever. Check out our latest catalogue, a selection of items by and relating to Lewis Carroll. Beware the frumious bandersnatch!

KSRB Gift Idea #3: Geology! Since our last recommend humored the geography crowd, I thought we'd better get one in for the geology folks. "Beyond the Visible Landscape: Aerial Panoramas of Utah's Geology" is chock full of images that not only showcase the area's fascinating geology, but that are also stunning in their own right. You could spend some really happy hours by the fire paging through this book and seeing our incredible landscape from a new perspective. -ms.

KSRB Gift Idea #1: Miniature Books! Melissa sez: these tiny darlings make perfect stocking stuffers, or you could wrap one up and hide it amongst the ornaments on the tree. We have many choices at the shop, but my recommendation for today is "Time I$" by artists Peter and Donna Thomas (with quotes from Mark Twain and Ben Franklin). This is a wonderful miniature book with a modified scroll /flap structure which reads "Time is Money" (Franklin) on the front and flips up to reveal a slightly different message: "Geological time is not money" (Twain). A great holiday message in miniature.

KSRB is settling into the cold weather groove at this drafty old barn we call a bookstore and thinking of new ways to keep warm this winter (short of burning the overabundance of books currently choking the shelves and the aisles like some sort of Mormon kudzu) now that Katie is back at work with her and hubby's new arrival, Juniper Tschanz, aka "the june bug."

New arrivals in addition to Miss Juniper include a great scholarly collection of Judaicia, with a nice balance of religious, metaphysics, historical and literary acquisitions; a great collection of books on magic; quite a bit of new poetry; lots of fiction, mysteries, etc. Great new children's books as well. And an exceptional collection of one of a kind fine bindings by the renowned bookbinder Leonard Mounteney.

Our brand new Catalog #43 is out and posted to our webpage. Lots of great Christmas ideas for the true collector to be found here.

Watch for Ken's Christmas recommendations on the annual Radio West Christmas book show on Dec. 6th at 11:00 AM on KUER 90.1 locally in SLC and to be found on satellite radio as well.

There's a great write-up by Ann Poore of Utah artist Tony Smith's new book in 15 Bytes. You can of course obtain your very own copy from Ken Sanders Rare Books. We will also have the artist at the bookstore for a reading, signing, and exhibit of his work on December 2nd for gallery stroll.

KSRB Gift Idea #2: 3D Maps! This is the coolest use of 3D I've seen, and it'll entertain you far longer than Avatar. This nifty atlas takes those hard-to-read topographical maps and transforms them into 3D marvels, plus it comes with 3D glasses. Made by locals, this atlas covers Millcreek, Big Cottonwood, and Little Cottonwood Canyons. These make great gifts (I've already bought two for my geography geek friends). -ms

We here at Ken Sanders Rare Books are getting into the season with some truly spectacular gift ideas. We will be featuring recommendations from our staff over the coming days and weeks (only 18 days left until Christmas!), but in the meantime, come on by and check out our gift displays! We have great books in all price ranges, and some incredible collectible pieces. A few of our recent acquisitions include some gorgeous design bindings (these will go fast); an entire run of the work of Kurt Vonnegut in leather (all signed!); works signed by luminaries like Ernest Hemingway, Tony Hillerman, and Zane Grey; charming children’s books from Ian Falconer’s Olivia and first editions in the Harry Potter series to classics like a signed copy of The House at Pooh Corner and a first edition of Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are with an unbelievably great sketch by Sendak.
