What Makes a good POS System?
There are so many Point of Sale System options available in the market. But finding the right one suitable for your business can be overwhelming.
Each system and software offers different features and focus a specific industry. Important things to consider is to find a system that fits your business, easy to use, reporting features, warranty and support services provided.
Budget is very important. Don’t go low, don’t go high. It’s important to find a POS provider, who are the developers of the supplied POS Software. They should be able to make small changes to the software to make it better suit your business.
Go meet the supplier and meet them for a DEMO. Having a feel of the system tells you more insight of the POS System and the POS Software than looking at a website or a brochure.
Who are you? What do you do?
Are you a retailer? Are you a restaurant? A café, pizza shop, takeaway shop, food truck, grocery shop, car wash … feel free to give us a call to clarify your pre POS purchase queries.
It’s important to ask, but not assume.
Many POS suppliers can-not create new features for you at no cost after you purchase the POS system. Highly likely it’s not possible. If features you are looking for is not originally available on the POS Software, it’s too late if you have already made the purchase.
Is it easy to use? What does the software interface look like?
How easy to create a customer, find the address, select items and options/choices, finalise a sale by taking payments, reprint receipts, view reports, print vouchers, give discounts, setup products, check inventory, backup systems? The list goes on.
Many of advanced POS systems available in the market are complicated and you pay for unwanted complexity, unless you really need them. There are some POS systems made to run the transaction in as few clicks as possible. Staff find them easy operate, which is very important. Do look for a POS Supplier that provide a training and a learning curve, these do take time to learn and you only learn it by practice.
Does it run reports?
Most businesses need to run end-of-day reports or some called close cash, at a minimum.
How good is the warranty and support?
All POS Solutions usually comes with a year of replacement warranty and free tech support. You might want to purchase a support plan in future years. But with POS suppliers like MiPOS (https://www.mipos.com.au) you do not have to pay Annual License Fees and Venue Fees. Get few quotations and read them carefully for hidden fees and fees you would have to pay for thin air.
As a starting point, here is a link to the full retail system. https://www.mipos.com.au/
