Although Malvern Books is a recent addition to the area, I have high hopes for this niche book store. They specialize in translated works in particular, and the staff are both friendly and extremely knowledgeable about many of the works that they carry. They have semi-regular poetry readings, and have specials focusing on specific genres from time to time.

Boomerang's has great meat pies, and it's a welcome change from traditional cuisine you'll find elsewhere in Austin. Opt to eat it with the mashed potatoes and gravy on top. Make sure to look for coupons online for their pies, as they often run specials.

Based off the happy hour alone, Fino is an incredible restaurant. They have affordable, delicious appetizers (in particular the home-made pita and hummus) and good drinks to boot. Also in terms of their regular menu their paella in particular is delicious, and hard to find properly done elsewhere in Austin.

Mellow mushroom has good pizza, but some serious cons are the substantial wait time for each order to be ready and the price. The venue, however, is great and has regular live shows.

I've never understood the hype for this place, except for the fact that it's been frequented by UT students for a long time. Their burgers, shakes, and fries are all unremarkable. It won't be much of a loss when this place is razed in the next few years to make room for the new UT buildings.

I was beyond excited when this pie shop moved into my neighborhood; I love pie and had heard good things about the original location. The main problem with this place, although the pie is great, is that it's inordinately expensive for a dessert shop. $30 for a pie, or $6 for a small slice, is hardly worth it- especially given that it's surrounded by Austin's student population. I have high hopes that they'll change this in the future, because it could become a truly popular spot if it were to lower their prices.

I'd really rather not review this place because I'd hate to see it get even more crowded than it already is on weekends. By FAR the best breakfast tacos near campus, and possibly in Austin overall. Their tortillas are made in-house and are incredible. Get the Benedicto on Saturdays, their interesting take on the migas taco (served flat), and their tortas in particular.
