I'm going to receive my first community garden plot in about a month, and I'd love to get some tips on how to work the plot. So far I'm thinking of planting kale, lettuce, spinach. Other than that, maybe a few herbs such as green onions, rosemary, lavender, or echinacea. I will probably get a ton of zucchini and squash from my CSA so I don't really want to grow that. I'm not really thinking in terms of companion planting because of the space restrictions. I have access to plenty of compost. Should I go for other varieties, something more tall like corn or beans? Thanks!
Thanks for the tips!I will definitely interplant for insect diversity. I figured corn would take up too much space. I live in VT, where the winter is long and cold, so there is really only one growing season. Apparently spring only lasts about a week, so the summer is when we grow. And I'm not sure if I have the same plot each year, I'll have to check on that.
