A group of 8 friends went to Locke Ober expecting to enjoy the time. Our reservation was at 7:30 but we weren't seated until 8. Other than the decor of the restaurant we didn't like anything about the restaurant. Food was not great compared to the price. Two of the orders got mixed up when the waiter served a well done steak to someone who ordered a medium and the person who ordered the well done got the medium. One of us ordered drinks which was never served. They served us desserts without any utensils to eat them. We waited five minutes then had to flag down the hostess and ask her for silverware. The waiter looked seriously upset the entire time. We had to wait a long time before the order was taken and long time between appetizer and entree service. We actually had to ask them to serve dessert more promptly since some of us were in a hurry but you already know what happened after that. I would not go back.

Step back in time with this capsule of a restaurant. You enter a different Boston when stepping in here. It's incredible to find this restaurant at this location. The decor is quite funky, the food is earthy and tasty (maybe a bit stuffy). A great pick for restaurant week as it can be quite expensive. I would suggest taking your time and soaking in the atmosphere. It's really too bad they don't use their buffet service set anymore (but it still looks great).

with a well-maintained old-fashioned dining space and lots of interesting decorator items, locke-ober provides a comfortable and unique environment for a special meal. service is friendly and careful, and the staff brings courses promptly but doesn't hurry the diners. very generous portions of tasty food including regional seafood specialties and delicious beef selections are attractively presented. the wine list is long with a number of reasonably-priced choices. at dinner's end one appreciates the experience of having excellent food graciously served in a historic establishment.
