I feel like we've come so far but, at the same time, being a programmer I like the idea of describing an animation rather than drawing it.

I came across http://roadstorome.moovellab.com/ the other day which has a nice visualisation of the shortest road paths to Rome over Europe. I wondered if I could reproduce this for my own home. Turns out that the Ordnance Survey has a nice dataset of the UK road network to download. I also expected that I'd have to write some sort of data processing code in Python. Turns out that I could do all of the computation in PostgreSQL, PostGIS and pgRouting.

TIL that sloccount doesn't count any JavaScript as a line of code. I think I may agree with it.

After typing the correct command into the wrong terminal for the n th time I'm left wondering: does anyone know of any magic one can put in a bashrc to set the background colour of the terminal. I'd like a per-machine config which changes as I SSH around.

Edit: Obviously my initial Google-ing proved fruitless.

I've been designing and building the front panel and associated bus monitoring hardware for Búri, my homebrew 6502-based computer. Here's some demo blinkenlights.
