Bringing the promise of integration, security and empowerment to adult newcomers in Salt Lake County.
Introduction
The ESLC was founded in 1988 under the name Literacy Volunteers of America – Wasatch Front (LVA-WF).  Initially, the organization offered teaching services to English speakers who had difficulty in reading and/or writing, as well as English for immigrants and refugees.  Then, in the mid-90s, in the face of the rapidly growing population of refugees and other immigrants, LVA-WF started to put more emphasis on helping adult non-English speakers.  Since 2001, we have worked exclusively in the field of English as a Second Language, hence the name change to English Skills Learning Center.

For the past 25 years, volunteers from the Salt Lake Valley have dedicated their time and energy to teaching, under the supervision of the ESLC staff, adults from over 40 countries from around the world basic English. The ESLC has strive to ensure that every refugee and immigrant adult who does not have access to traditional English classes has that opportunity through our non-traditional approach. Classes are taught in the community through our community partnership locations.

Naide is scheduled to take her citizenship test and interview soon. In fact, while Cyla and Naide only have six more sessions before her appointment, it seems that they are both beyond excited that she will reach her goal VERY soon. ‪#‎feelgoodstory‬ ‪#‎amazingvolunteer‬

A message from the Bhutanese Community in Utah: As we know Nepal has been knocked hard by devastating earthquake of 7.9 Richter scale magnitude. We cannot explain the huge loss of casualties and property damage. Preliminary report says thousands of people are found dead, many livestock got killed, billions of property loss. In this situation of severe pain, we have to be more strong and dedicated to help the needy people there so, the Bhutanese Community in Utah (BCU) is take the first initiative and would like to request every well-whisher, individual, agency, company and organization to extend their helping hands to ensure possible help to the victim from our side.
