Let's make it clear.... the personal belief exemption is not just a choice for you about your child. It puts all of us at greater risk. Let's make a smarter decision for public health in California.

I absolutely agree that vaccines are wonderful and I'm glad that they're available and have drastically reduced the prevalence of smallpox, polio, rubella, etc.
I honestly think that more and more people will make the decision to get vaccinate / get their kids vaccinated as vaccine-preventable diseases resurface in our population.  I see the government's role as spreading accurate and understandable information and in making vaccines easily available.  I don't want to live in a world where the government mandates what vaccines my kids get and when, especially if that starts extending to other health decisions, like women being forced to have c-sections (http://rhrealitycheck.org/article/2014/07/25/florida-hospital-demands-woman-undergo-forced-c-section/) or circumcision becoming required for baby boys because it decreases the risk of STD transmission.

This is cool! Not just bigger or smaller or longer or featherier than the dinosaurs I grew up knowing about, but a whole new concept in types of dinosaur!
The first bones came in a cardboard box. Nizar Ibrahim, a paleontologist, was in the Moroccan oasis town of Erfoud at the edge of the Sahara, returning from a dinosaur dig in the sands. Inside the box, brought to him by a nomad, were sediment-encrusted pieces more intriguing than anything he had ...

Call me an incurable skeptic, but once there are two tiers I just don't see how the incentives are going to line up for companies to take care of the lesser one. Let's stick with Net Neutrality.

Not your typical acorn woodpecker habitat. I don't blame you if you don't find the photographic evidence terribly convincing...you'll have to take my word that the red heads and wing flash were unmistakable. Strangest oak tree ever!

We have a lot of metalpeckers in Ithaca. I saw & heard three of them in one day, spring before last.

We saved the trees! This tree is still here, to bloom again another year. And everyone using the new path can enjoy the blossoms too.

Read this.

Read this. +Hope Wabuke gives the crispest first-hand view I've read all year into exactly what is so infuriatingly wrong. You don't have to pick a side in the Ferguson mess. You don't have to pick a political label to identify with. Just read this as a human.

Holy Sh*t! That's outrageous! OK, now the ISIS thing is truly unacceptable. I didn't know why it mattered before... Now it is clear.
Up to 4 million women and girls near Mosul could be impacted by militants ‘fatwa’

Participated in Fatted Calf's Pig+Woman+Knife class today with +Stephanie Litty. An unusual set of experiences in making yummy food, topped off with a tasty lunch and piggy meat treats to go home with us. Memorable!
