Nifty. And cute!
It's always exciting news when a new species has been discovered, especially new mammals since they are relatively rare. It's been 35 years since the last discovery of a carnivorous mammal in the Americas until yesterday, August 15th. Kristofer Helgen, curator of mammals at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, announced the olinguito (pronounced oh-lin-GHEE-toe) as the newest carnivorous mammal native to Central and South America.
