My new post is on the White Sox making a series of moves this month to greatly improve in every facet of the game. GM Rick Hahn is to be respected for his aggression instead of biding time by selling us on a long-range plan.

The Cubs grabbed the local headlines last week with the head-turning signing of free-agent left-hander Jon Lester, but the White Sox also have been making major moves — and improvements — this offseason. The Sox completed a busy two-week period early Sunday morning with the reported signing of free-agent outfielder Melky Cabrera. That follows the... <a href="http://www.chicagonow.com/john-jackson-sports/2014/12/december-haul-sets-up-white-sox-for...

My new post concerns the comment from Carmelo Anthony that he decided to stay with the Knicks rather than sign with Bulls was his ties to New York. That's bull and I explain why and make a case for the Bulls being better off without him.

My new post concerns the frustration Bulls fans are feeling right now because Derrick Rose is sitting out -- again -- with two sprained ankles, and why that's not a smart position to take.

My new post is why the Bears decision to bench Jay Cutler for the final two games of the regular season is a mistake and proof that Marc Trestman is over his head.

http://www.chicagonow.com/john-jackson-sports/2014/12/benching-cutler-a-desperate-move-that-doesnt-make-sense/
I have no doubt that hundreds of thousands — heck, maybe even millions — of Jay Cutler haters across the region rejoiced at the news late Wednesday afternoon that the struggling Bears quarterback will be benched for the final two games of the regular season. Cutler wasn’t very popular before the season began and he’s... <a href="http://www.chicagonow.com/john-jackson-sports/2014/12/benching-cutler-a-desperate-move-that-doesnt-make-sense/" class="...

Check out my new post to learn why the Cubs shelling out $155 million to sign Jon Lester is a good move, and why I think the Cubs can make the playoffs next season.

http://www.chicagonow.com/john-jackson-sports/2014/12/despite-considerable-risks-signing-lester-a-great-move-for-cubs/
In the long run, big-money, long-term free agent contracts almost never work out in Major League Baseball. When you agree to pay a player superstar money into their mid-30s and beyond, it’s virtually impossible to get your money’s worth. Most players can’t maintain that superstar level of production as they age, others get injured (especially... <a href="http://www.chicagonow.com/john-jackson-sports/2014/12/despite-considerable-risks-signing-lest...

At the risk of spraining my arm patting myself on the back, my new post concerns Ray Rice winning the appeal of his indefinite suspension and how I was one of the few people to see this case clearly back in September. The former U.S. District judge who heard the case basically agreed with my assessment from September and exposed the self-serving actions of commissioner Roger Goodell and the Baltimore Ravens.

In my role as a journalist and sports commentator, I take great pride in the ability to look at a situation objectively and reach a conclusion based solely on the facts. Sadly, that’s not the approach all (or perhaps even most) sports journalists take these days. They often let emotion and public opinion sway their... <a href="http://www.chicagonow.com/john-jackson-sports/2014/11/why-ray-rice-winning-appeal-of-indefinite-suspension-shouldnt-be-a-...

My new post addresses one of the great problems of modern American society -- fantasy football. As you might have guessed, I'm not a fan.
