Our research poster was based on finding out what motivates employees in goal setting and on the other hand, how managers keep their employees motivated. We used scholarly articles to look at the original motivational theories such as Maslow's hierarchy of needs, Locke's goal setting theory, and the SMART acronym. We further interviewed 3 managers and 20 employees and found that the most common thing that motivates employees is reward systems such as an increase in salary. We concluded that the theories were dated however when all combined they can still be effective. In today's society it is money and job security that will motivate employees.
