Helpful perspective from John Greathouse on how startups can benefit by understanding Pink Floyd's approach to creating their landmark album DSOTM (a personal favorite).

Amazingly beautiful video sequence of everyone's favorite star.

The most stunning images you have ever seen of the surface of the sun
The crown on three years of observations by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory is this extraordinary video. To quote Nasa:
These images are more than just pretty. By highlighting different wavelengths of light, scientists can track how material on the sun moves. Such movement, in turn, holds clues as to what causes these giant explosions.

It´s a giant fusion engine that drives the solar system, fueling live on earth as well as being the most dangerous thing around capable of forces beyond our imagination.

This video shows you how impressive that nice warm sun really is

I backed Solar Roadways on IndieGoGo. They have already hit their $1M funding goal. Please help them go even farther by backing their project! This is AMAZING tech.

Seth Godin is right on the mark. Don't get sucked into the mindless mania of manufactured hysteria ... this year, try something truly original and stay home with your family! :)

There is Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) in this video, but it has all been pre-rendered and is being projected live onto the two screens, which in turn are manipulated by two industrial robots. The precision of the projection onto these screens is mind-boggling. It can be challenging to understand what you're seeing here, because we've become so jaded and accustomed to seeing CGI on TV and in Films. These people have caused a blurring of the line between digital and reality, and it's magical to behold!

This will blow your mind. Digital and real space fused into one with movable projection.

No CGI, 100% captured on camera.

The pioneering work in algorithmic 3D modeling shown in this video is really exciting. While there are (currently) limitations to the application of this technique (based on clarity of photo and ability to process an object's form), this approach will put 3D modeling into the hands of many people who would never have been able/interested to use it before. Adobe and Autodesk will no doubt incorporate these kinds of algorithms into their own products very soon.

I'm very excited about the NEW ideas represented in TUG. I've backed their Kickstarter and I'm look forward to testing, modding and contributing to the foundation of a strong community in this unique online world with the potential to reinvent the entire concept of virtual worlds. If this highly original sandbox game experience intrigues you, please support their Kickstarter campaign. I hope to see you all in TUG later this year!
TUG is a multiplayer open-world sandbox-RPG using new technology and social sciences to directly involve players in the game’s design.

Introduction

I've been designing, producing, writing, and creating graphics and animation for games since 1981. Back in 1983, when there were only 6 colors (and nobody complained), my brother Eric and I made our mark with "Julius Erving and Larry Bird Go One-on-One," a game that helped to launch the early success of Electronic Arts.

Over the past 3 decades, I have been involved in the development of more than 35 interactive projects, including games, educational titles, virtual worlds and mobile apps. While working at Lucasfilm Games / LucasArts Entertainment (1989-1991), I produced several landmark games, including “The Secret of Monkey Island,” “Loom” and “Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe.”

In 2007 I directed the development and launch of Build-A-Bearville, a kids’ virtual world for Build-A-Bear Workshop. In late 2008, I was tapped to direct the launch of another kids’ virtual world, the RIDEMAKERZ Virtual Experience.

Now, as CEO & Founder of minMOG, a new game studio here in St. Louis, I am working on an exciting, original mobile project: a hybrid of casual, social and MMO gaming with numerous ground-breaking features.

Please contact me if you wish to know more about minMOG.

I recently went in for a free service clinic. Everyone at West County Honda was very friendly and professional. I appreciated the thoroughness of the diagnostic information they provided, enabling me to determine the maintenance service required for my 2006 Honda Odyssey.
