Had an interesting directive on Friday....
We had established an awesome faulty mark book using Google Sheets fixing a huge number of problems we have had previously with people deleting stuff they shouldn't and other things.

One of the DPs was concerned and rang Legal Branch who told her that no information about students should be stored on Google Drive as we can't control access and if there was a breach of security then a third party (Google) can't be investigated.  But they told her that when Google Apps comes to DEC it would be okay then to have student data on Google Drive.

I have taken down the markbooks but am pretty frustrated having spent (in conjunction with a colleague ) about 20 hours on this so far.

Has anyone else come across this? Does anyone else have student data on Google Drive (or for that matter anywhere else on the cloud)? And when Google Apps comes to DEC will the information be stored internally to DEC or still on Google's servers?

I have multiple copies of stuff in various cloud services (mostly as backups) - some of which contains student information - does this then apply to that as well?

Thought I should share this with this community in case others run into the same stumbling block.

Has anyone had any luck with the proxy settings for Google Drive on the DER wireless?  It doesn't seem to pick up the system proxy settings on my Mac  = no sync at school

Hope Google Apps arrives in DEC soon! Just a quick question I am currently using Google Drive for shared collaborative programming for the Maths Faculty at Killara HS. I am also in the process of moving our Markbooks, Registration etc to the cloud. I am just wondering how easy it will be to migrate content to the DEC Google environment if/when it becomes available.

I have set up killarahsmaths@gmail.com as the root user - that way all the content is not attached to a specific person - it is just shared with all the users - staff have created their own gmail account - I guess I can just change the shares to be with their DEC user profile with Google Aps

Well after initial success with Bukkit server at school in the last week of term it stopped working giving us communication errors. So I am now investigating MinecraftEdu as an alternative - I gather it works inside the DEC environment?

A link to the Bukkit server that worked with the Minecraft Client Software that works inside DEC - a Year 7 student at Killara got it working yesterday with multiple people joining at once

September 1st is the perfect time to start something new for 30 days, like taking a picture a day or walking 10,000 steps a day. Last month (August 2013) I tried to exercise for 30 minutes every day, and I feel like I'm in much better shape now.

For September 2013, I think I might try a 30 day challenge related to email. I spend about three hours a day doing email on average, and I'd really like to cut that down to something healthier.

Does anyone have a way of changing the sharing permissions for a bunch of nested folders  - I changed on the top level but it does not replicate through the stack.  Don't really want to go through each one individually......

On reflection I think it has worked it just took a while to replicate through the stack

Google+ aims to make sharing on the web more like sharing in real life. Take a look at Circles, Events and Hangouts; just a few of the things that we've been working on.

Does anyone have any ideas for using GoogleDocs as a teacher day book. It came up in a TARs meeting with one of my teachers today - he is very keen to ditch the paper gradebook and go electronic - he suggested OneNote and I suggested Google Docs (we are using as a Faculty for programming) - but was thinking about the best way - any ideas?
