The Sri Lankan night life scene keeps getting bigger and better. We’ve got tons of parties in and around Colombo to all the way down to the rural parts of this beautiful island. But if there’s one thing you’d find yourself familiar with, is that every party that’s happening and is usually highly anticipated got two dynamic, passionate and young “crazy” individuals behind the lights and sound. The music they play, gets your stiff bodies swaying to the beats. If you’re in a bad mood, you’re favourite song would be suddenly playing and you’d experience a rush of euphoria through you. And if you paid closer attention, you’d see right behind the DJ console – The Lunatics.

It was yet again the time for those house colours to brighten the skies and all the cheering and roars to tremble the ground. The annual inter house sports meet of Visakha Vidyalaya '17 was thus gracefully held on Friday, the 26th of January 2017 at St. Peter's College grounds from 1.30 pm onwards. It was certainly an afternoon of energy, stamina and victory while Visakhians young and old, from all around the country had gathered together to cheer for their house for old times' sake and they sure had a wonderful time with renewed memories and of course the papare music.

The winners were of course the proud Motwanians while Pulimood and Weerasooriya placed second and third respectively. 4th and 5th place went to Dawes and Jayathilake while the 6th place was Dias. However with the spirit of true sportsmanship, regardless who the winners were, all the Visakhians danced their hearts out together as one united school at the end of the evening and it was sure a heartwarming scene to watch.

First day at school indeed is a huge and one of the most exciting experiences for both the little ones as well as their parents. The memorable day, when little six year olds, became proud Visakhians, thus dawned on the 11th of January 2017 as bunches of little princesses dressed up in the four pleated white frock, the legendary blue tie with the golden lamp shining upon it, crowded the school premises and the school was filled with their giggles and laughter for they have been crowned and were taken under the protective shades of mother Visakha. Madam principal and rest of the staff gather together in welcoming these little girlies, who will one day make the school name shine brighter than ever.

For most of us meeting a real life Taylor Swift or Ed Sheeran is a privilege. It's even incredible when you know you're own very country is reaching new heights in the music industry and this is where 21 year old Thyasha comes into the limelight. Surely we find tons of singers in Sri Lanka, but on a serious note Thyasha most certainly stands apart! She's known for her music, her music defines her and lyrics, titles tracks are all inspired by her real life situations and life experiences than the conventional commercial albums! Her debut album '1101' launch was held on 26th of January at the Sooriya Music Village, Colombo.

Two years can look longer when you don’t get to keep much in touch, specially after high school. The 2015 A/L batch of Our Lady Victorious College thus organized their first batch party after leaving school on the 14th of January 2017 at Hotel Ramadiya, Moratuwa to keep the relationships from getting distant and also to give good old friends a chance to walk down the memory lane and to revisit those cherished memories of wonderful school days.

The event which was named ‘Encontro 2k17’, started from 7 pm onwards and went all night long with lots of giggles and laughter, amazing music and endless dancing while pretty ladies dressed up in gowns had a time of their life that evening.

Music is the heavenly food many of us crave for, and when it is blend with the strength and vigor coming from all types of percussion drums, it certainly quenches all the desires of hunger for music.

Last Friday, the 13th of January was one such evening where the skies echoed the beats of the drums, earth trembled with the energy and thousands of music lovers gathered at the Bishop’s College Auditorium could not take their gaze, ears or heart away from what was happening on the stage.

‘Gosha – Beat to beat’ was thus proudly staged with style, passion and vigor by Limini Weerasinghe, the youngest female djembe player in Sri-Lanka as her very first public concert. To fill in the tiny gaps and to add colour, compassion and enthusiasm to the pounding beats, many prestigious musicians of our time including Bathiya and Santhush, Randhir, Jananath Warakagoda and Dinaadaa too graced the occasion.

In an era of all work and no play, hectic work schedules are nothing new. The phrase “sit back and relax” doesn’t come so easy anymore. The closest any of us are to inner peace is when we come home from a long day and fall asleep on our couch...

I sit here reading a book, near the window of the hostel I stay in Australia. It is the time of summer around here. I see a bunch of young boys and girls sitting on the grass outside the hostel, chit chatting and laughing. Girls are wearing miniskirts and colorful tiny sun dresses to greet the summer. However, I cannot see...
