Thirteen years of schooling encompasses plentiful lavishing memories of merry-making. The Samudradevi Balika Vidyalaya’s 2015 A/L Batch Reunion was held on 24th February at Hotel Greens Court, Homagama to recap their immortal memories within a fairy tale.

Commencing from 6pm onwards the fairytale themed eve kept on getting glamorous with the girls’ chuckling laughter, giggles and jokes. The girls who often saw each other as school girls few years ago, reunited in beauty gowns bringing princesses in fairytales to life.

The dancing and entertainment related to its theme filled the court splendidly. The organizers and the creative buds of the art section showed off their dance moves in two dance acts taking the spectators breath away. The nostalgic fairytale ceased in the mid of the night like a Cinderella Story with renewed everlasting school friendships and new eternal memories.

We are a country where the students are given free education. But in some parts of the country, the quality, safety and the facilities that come with this free education sometimes create boundaries and segregations. In order to try and bridge this gap, the Interact Club of Stafford International School gracefully held SIS Walk and Fair 2017 on Saturday the 18th of February 2017, from 9 AM to 5 PM.

The walk was themed as a walk for change as the youngsters who joined in had partnered with Authenticities Sri Lanka to make a change using all the funds raised from the walk as well as the after walk fair. They hope to visit schools that are less privileged and to provide the necessary support and facilities to uplift the standard of their education. These funds will also be channeled to renovate their school buildings and provide much safer environments which are more conducive for effective learning.

The Sri Lankan night life scene keeps getting bigger and better. We’ve got tons of parties in and around Colombo to all the way down to the rural parts of this beautiful island. But if there’s one thing you’d find yourself familiar with, is that every party that’s happening and is usually highly anticipated got two dynamic, passionate and young “crazy” individuals behind the lights and sound. The music they play, gets your stiff bodies swaying to the beats. If you’re in a bad mood, you’re favourite song would be suddenly playing and you’d experience a rush of euphoria through you. And if you paid closer attention, you’d see right behind the DJ console – The Lunatics.

It was yet again the time for those house colours to brighten the skies and all the cheering and roars to tremble the ground. The annual inter house sports meet of Visakha Vidyalaya '17 was thus gracefully held on Friday, the 26th of January 2017 at St. Peter's College grounds from 1.30 pm onwards. It was certainly an afternoon of energy, stamina and victory while Visakhians young and old, from all around the country had gathered together to cheer for their house for old times' sake and they sure had a wonderful time with renewed memories and of course the papare music.

The winners were of course the proud Motwanians while Pulimood and Weerasooriya placed second and third respectively. 4th and 5th place went to Dawes and Jayathilake while the 6th place was Dias. However with the spirit of true sportsmanship, regardless who the winners were, all the Visakhians danced their hearts out together as one united school at the end of the evening and it was sure a heartwarming scene to watch.

First day at school indeed is a huge and one of the most exciting experiences for both the little ones as well as their parents. The memorable day, when little six year olds, became proud Visakhians, thus dawned on the 11th of January 2017 as bunches of little princesses dressed up in the four pleated white frock, the legendary blue tie with the golden lamp shining upon it, crowded the school premises and the school was filled with their giggles and laughter for they have been crowned and were taken under the protective shades of mother Visakha. Madam principal and rest of the staff gather together in welcoming these little girlies, who will one day make the school name shine brighter than ever.

D. S. Senanayake College – Colombo, reached its grand 50th year in this February as the school celebrated its golden jubilee, of course in style. Among the many functions organized to celebrate this amazing occasion, 'Theewraa - Golden Jubilee Live' topped the list for it was indeed one enchanting evening full of energy, music, colour and rhythm.

Current students of D. S. Senanayake College, Old Senanayakiens’ Music Circle (OSMC) together with the school Old Boys’ Association proudly staged this amazing event on last Sunday, the 5th of February 2017 from 6.30 pm onwards, at D. S. Senanayake College premises, showcasing the unbeatable musical mastery of their own young and old Senanayakiens.

“Theewraa - Golden Jubilee Live” has been the first ever outdoor school band show performed by D. S. Senanayake College and things only got “bigger-better and bolder” when a set of the best artists in the country including Lahiru Perera, Chithral Somapala, Bathiya & Santhush and JayaSri, representing a multitude of musical genres ranging from Rock to Indian Classical Shastriya Sangeet, graced the occasion and joined the Senanayakiens in celebrating the grand birthday of their Alma Mater.

The amazing evening was witnessed by a crowd of more than 3000 while it was also streamed live, worldwide so that the Senanayakiens who are overseas and could not make it, don’t miss it completely. The souls of young and old students of the school who physically and virtuallytook part in the event, were swollen with pride and honour when two of their own brothers: Nifal Ibrahim and Navodya Gunasekare were acknowledged as promising guitar and drum players in Sri-Lanka by BNS as well as Lahiru Perera.

At the end of the day it was an amazing collective effort that made the whole school echo in cheering a roars and it was indeed one great birthday celebration. The show however, would never have been such a success if not for the guidance and the smooth execution byYashoda Sandamal Gajanayake –the project chair and also the generous contribution and support given throughout by Susantha Subashan Dissanayake – the OBA president. With everything put together, we are certain that mother D. S. Senanayake was very proud of her sons as she witnessed the success of 'Theewraa - Golden Jubilee Live' on last Sunday.
