The most common cause of a tooth turning gray is oral trauma. When an impact occurs to the tooth, it can cause the tooth to loose blood flow and eventually die. This can occur over a period of years, so it may not immediately be apparent. It is also possible to traumatize your tooth without being aware of it, by biting down awkwardly or unusually hard, or by grinding your teeth at night (a condition known as bruxism).

Having sensitive teeth may be an indication of a dental problem that needs treatment. It should therefore be used as a big hint to visit the dentist!
