Thoughts on the new HTC 10
Just some random tidbits about the phone which I think are good or bad.BoomSound
is still present, which is good. But it's no longer front facing stereo, which is bad.UBS-C (USB 3.1) with QC 3.0
is great. HTC has very little market share and mind share to make an impact, but that's still one more OEM on-board the USB-C transition.32GB storage
is the base model, which is great. Death to 16GB models. Still comes with SD card support
, and also Android's Flex Storage
, which is also good to see.
No more HTC black bar
which is great, but also no more software nav buttons
, instead going to physical buttons
. Some may be fine with that, but I'm not a fan.Fingerprint scanner
is present which should be expected, but it's a home button
scanner. Again, some may be fine with this, but again, I'm not a fan.Camera
reportedly scores the same as the Galaxy S7 Edge on DxOMark, which is highly promising. Front camera also comes with OIS
, a first in the industry.
Biggest win in my book, is the software which was worked on together with Google. No more duplicate apps
. Just one calendar - the Google Calender, one gallery - Google Photos, one music player - Google Play Music, one calculator, Google Calculator. This is a very good move.Price
is just wrong. $700 when other flagships are selling for $400? Not a smart move by a company struggling for sales.
Overall, this looks like a much more promising phone than the M9 was. It'll be a hard sell for $700. If it was $400-$500 it would be a much better proposition.
