"What, if anything, could University of Rochester have done to improve your undergraduate experience?"

Actually care about creating a well-informed critically-thinking mature and responsible citizenry and populace, rather than the extension of corporate managerial priorities into a realm where they do not belong.

Furthermore: Treat us like adults, rather than like inconveniently mobile moneyboxes that occasionally set things on fire or get alcohol poisoning. Then we will actually have reasons to act like adults.

In which I talk about a book about Second Life by talking about my experience with Starry Expanses and the Oculus Rift.
Over the last several days I read Tom Boellstorff's Coming of Age in Second Life: An Anthropologist Explores the Virtually Human. It was very enjoyable and also fascinating! By way of commentary an...

Valve's VR guru refers to this as 'presence'. I understand that Valve's VR demos, while completely non-realistic looking, feel like the real world to every single person who has stepped into their hardware.

Today on my blog, you can read what I did for my last semester of college! I analyzed my housing cooperative through the lens of an analytic structure I hope can be useful to more organizations than just mine.

"You could say that taxpayers are basically moneylenders to a government that is far more interested in subsidizing business than in caring for their workers, but would anyone believe you?"

Capitalism Run Amok...
After getting driven out of my job by the State Department, I found myself looking for part-time positions in retail.

"Some employees at Bullseye had been yelled at too many times or were too afraid of losing their jobs. They were not only broke, but broken. People—like dogs—don't get that way quickly, only by a process of erosion eating away at whatever self-esteem they may still possess. "  This. I've been ranting about this for years.

"The fact that humankind has advanced to the point where we need so much less human labor to maintain the same level of productivity can be seen as a positive, as long as we can let go of the belief that a full-time job is a prerequisite for a complete, meaningful life"
What do Martin Luther King Jr., John Kenneth Galbraith, Milton Friedman, Richard Nixon, Charles Murray, and David Graeber have in common? They’ve all supported versions of the radical-sounding but surprisingly widely embraced “guaranteed basic income”--the idea of supplementing or replacing the social safety net with a payment to all citizens, no questions asked. Inside an unlikely idea that has captivated thinkers on both right and left.

" To exercise one’s capacities to their fullest extent is to take pleasure in one’s own existence, and with sociable creatures, such pleasures are proportionally magnified when performed in company. ... We don’t have to explain why creatures desire to be alive. Life is an end in itself."
