Reuters reports that 25 people have been killed in Rada' in two bomb attacks targeting Huthi fighters. A car bomb was detonated at a Huthi-controlled checkpoint as a bus full of school children was passing, killing at least 15 students.
The bombs are thought to be the work of local AQAP-affiliated fighters, though I don't think AQAP has claimed them yet.

On September 17, 2013, American photojournalist Luke Somers was kidnapped in San'a. He was sold by his kidnappers to AQAP. Yesterday, AQAP released a video of Luke for the first time, and threatened to kill him within a few days. We haven't written about Luke before because his family asked for a total news blackout from the beginning. They've now asked for the opposite. Here's a video featuring Luke's brother and mother, in which they ask AQAP to release Luke. If you're going to post or share anything about this story, please post the family's video, rather than AQAP's propaganda.

Interesting article on Basement Cultural Foundation, a space for arts and culture in San'a. The article looks at how the volunteers who run the Basement are reacting to the Huthi takeover of San'a. [Disclosure: the Basement hosted the YPP's film screening in San'a earlier this year.] #Yemen
