I was at this airport in February 2015 on a Sunday. It was great. There were only 12 people in the airport. It is new and clean and we got through security very quickly. Compared to San Jose Airport it was a breeze. Talk about a mad house. San Jose airport is insane.

Don't let anyone grab your bags. They will hustle you for that tip. Insist that you do not need help.

I love this airport the only thing I don't like is the waiting area for the arrivals!! A lot of people waiting outside !! Never take a taxi it's a bad idea especially at this airport !! It's better to get a rental car from thrifty!! They have the best customer service and very professional.

Tourism is Costa Rica's number 1 industry, I was told - the $29 departure tax certainly puts a boost to this. And, like others said, give yourself enough time to pay this, fill out your form(s), check your bags, clear security and get to your gate - recommend no fewer than 2.5 hours. The airport itself is nice. Bring a snack...the Players restaurant wanted $28USD for two average size slices of pizza! If you must dine there, go to Quiznos; $11.50 for a sandwich, a bit much still, but considerably more reasonable in price and quality.

This airport is located in one of the hottest areas of the country and yet,you can't find a drinking fountain anywhere and if you choose to buy water from the stores inside the airport be prepared to pay $5 for the smallest bottle, its ridiculously expensive. Also there's no place to seat on the departure terminal and counter space to fill out their bullshit exit tax.

The only thing nice about this airport is that it is new. $30/person departure tax is a real hassle. Arrive early to fill out duplicate passport information before you can check in. Food is ridiculously expensive even for airport food. Paid $16 for hamburger and fries without a drink. No drinking fountains in airport. Not enough airport seating. Newness of airport is really lipstick on a pig.

Clean airport, small, modern. Do not eat at the restaurant by gate 3 and 4. Total gouging, no matter how you define it!
