An Adirondack trip: I went to shoot two particular locations that I wanted to shoot in overcast light. The 1st was a success, the second was so-so. On the way home I went through the old road by Mt Pond, one of my favorite locations. The Mt Pond photos are what I am posting tonight. I will spread the others out over a few days

I Got a new "toy" (photo gear) and spent some time figuring out how to use it. It is an adapter that allows me to shoot eight images through a Mamiya 645 lens. I can then stitch them together in Lightroom or photoshop to get a medium format image from my APSc sized EOS M sensor. The final size of this is 116 MP. It would print to ~36"X56" at 240 ppi. And that is after correction for vertical distortion and cropping.

I returned to the recent (undisclosed) location after some heavy rains. Here are some B&W images from this morning's shoot.

Return to yesterday's location with better light, bright overcast that has no "hot spot" highlights and very deep shadows. I made several stitched panoramas just for fun.

My workplace this morning. A photographer friend took me to a place he had found and we spent an hour or so photographing. The light was rather harsh for my taste. I'll have to go back sometime when there is at least some overcast to flatten the light.

WayBack Sunday: I have been looking over my Lightroom catalog from when I first began using digital regularly with a 4MP Olympus camera. This is from the spring of 2002, a photograph of Roaring Brook Falls as seen from Rt 73.

The original JPG color version was never printed because it was flat. I realized looking at it today, that at that point I was still shooting as a B&W photographer, which was the way I had seen the world up until then, but I didn't know then how (or have the tools) to manipulate digital images the way I did with film. This morning I changed it to monochrome and then modified the tones that way I would have a print from B&W film. Then it came to life for me.

I tend to keep exposures that a lot of photographers I know would delete in a first edit of a shoot but I find that some images require a second or even third look with fresh eyes, even if it is years later.
