"Because love is not about what we feel for others—it’s about what we do for others. The true power of love is found in selfless attitudes and actions that seek the best for another person without expecting anything in return. When we act in that way, the feeling of love follows close behind." -Dr. David Jeremiah

"If our purpose is to become more like Christ, then I think we take the first step on that path when we begin to see things outside of ourselves, no matter how small or insignificant that may sometimes seem. And sometimes we have to leave the comfort of home to get that perspective." Be glad, people of Zion, rejoice in the Lord your God, for he has given you the autumn rains because he is faithful. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before. - Joel 2:23 (NIV) https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?version=NIV&search=Joel%202:23

"We don’t always get a clear sign from God. There have been many, many times when we have prayed, sought the advice of friends and family, and waited for God to point us in the right direction, only to get . . . nothing. For example, when I was trying to decide whether I should quit my job, I agonized for months with no sense of what God wanted me to do. Where was our sign?

"The truth is, God doesn’t always move the clouds to show us which way to go. Instead, God asks us to be faithful, to make choices with our lives that honor him. He asks us to get our priorities in order, to turn away from worldly standards of success and achievement and to bend our will to that of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. And as we follow his example, walking in his ways, we begin to think more like him. Paul tells us in Romans 12:2: 'Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.'" - from NIV Devotions for Couples. Did you know that Jesus died a terrorist's death? The crucifixion was a cruel spectacle intended to humiliate the victim and intimidate his followers. The Roman government meant to send a message by killing Jesus so horribly--but God subverted that message with a much greater one. "We often judge people by their character and the attributes they consistently exhibit, and rightly so. We decide if we believe their words based on their past actions. We determine our relationships with them based on their faithfulness as a friend, in good and bad times. God, too, has a track record in our lives. He’s held true to His promises, has performed miracles in our lives, and has accomplished more than our finite minds can conceive. Periods of trial and tribulation try to rob us of our trust in an Almighty God. The Bible tells us that worrying doesn’t add a single hour to our life (Matthew 6:27), weighs down our spirit (Proverbs 12:25), and is actually the opposite of trusting God (Matthew 6:30). We should think back on God’s track record in our lives. Most assuredly we have emerged victorious! With God, we always win." - Tia McCollors, from the "Sister in Faith" devotional.
