Sometimes we lie because we so wish we could change the storyline for our loved one because we can not bear the injustice of life. Sometimes that is an act of compassion. xo

Excellent and very true. I'm sad that you are seeing signs of this playing out.

Hi Donna -- thanks for sharing this incredible story! I'm just not sure how it could be done in a secular world. It seems that the reason this model works is because the church unites members in a shared vision that everyone supports and is willing to contribute to -- financially and time-wise. It would be interesting to know if a community without a church-focus had ever developed something like this. Glad you were able to see Peace Haven in person.

I like that idea that you can find the world in the everyday, and how being present and observant allows you to appreciate so much, including the warm sheets!

I never interpreted the title of your book to refer to your freedom -- I always thought it referred to Nick's freedom -- but I see it speaks to both!

This is a beautiful piece Donna and so important. The videos brought tears to my eyes. It is amazing how much everyone benefits from these activities. Thanks for sharing! I think your mom would love doing the language exchange!

Brilliant. Was listening to a story on the CBC this weekend about a British man who opened a nursing home in Thailand that is full of elderly European people who want care they can't get at home. I thought the Atlantic piece was marvelous.
