The much awaited super car Bugatti Chiron made its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show this year and on the very next day the Motor Show closed its door, the Chiron made a surprise stop by Fleurier in the Val de Travers, home of Parmigiani Fleurier. Welcome to the 3rd episode of our watchmaking tourism saga. Today we’re in La Chaux-de-Fonds and its surrounding area, a region where many brands and many suppliers of the watchmaking industry are located. We’ll start with a little focus on the city, which is one of the largest at this altitude in Europe at 1,000 meters with a population of approximately 40,000 people. And at 40,000 it is the 3rd largest French-speaking city in Switzerland, which...

The new Nadal tourbillon by Richard Mille
The orange strap of the new RM 27-02 “Rafael Nadal” watch by Richard Mille catches the eye. It evokes in fact the clay courts' color of Roland-Garros, the French Tennis Open Mecca. But this third version of what has become the most extreme line at Richard Mille has a lot more to say. Indeed, the top and back of the case are made out of a mix of NTPT carbon and TPT quartz, which is what creates the irregular alternation of white and black colors. ...

Blancpain made a splash at the 2015 edition of Baselworld by unveiling a contemporary and even futuristic variation of its famous tourbillon carrousel model. The new L-Evolution Tourbillon Carrousel integrates the two complications designed to increase the accuracy of a movement. This brand is the only one who daring enough to marry these two mechanisms. One of the very best watchmaking events I have ever been to!!!! Focus on the substance of watchmaking.
For the first Dubai Watch Week, the bar has been set really high in terms message sent out to watch lovers, brands and ultimately to consumers that make this industry succeed. The key message was all about eduction; what is genuine watchmaking all about, what is the role of the watchmaker, as in the people making it in comparaison to industrial processes, how to promote watchmaking transmission of knowledge among many subjects.

This e...

There is a very close tie between Jaeger-LeCoultre and the world of polo, since it was this brand who was behind what became one of the most iconic watches of all time, the Reverso. It was created in 1931 thanks to the special request of being able to wear it during polo games, a rather physical sport where close contact with ball, players, and horses happens frequently. The reversible element of the watch case enabled it to protect the watch fac...

MB&F is now 10 years old and to celebrate this first decade of disruption in watchmaking, its founder Max Büsser has decided to hit the road with the HMX, a new and smart driver’s watch available in four different colors. On these watches time is visible on a lateral arched window and displayed through discs that are positioned horizontally in the movement. The shape of the titanium case is really admirable because of many curves and variations i...

Former Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher was a big fan of fine mechanical watches. Therefore, when the brand ask him to become an ambassador in 2010, Schumacher required more than just to be a celebrity wearing a special model. He wanted to be part of the creation process and brought an idea with im. After 5 years of development in close cooperation with Audemars Piguet’s technical and design team, the manufacture has now launched the Royal Oak...

When The Car Industry Can Teach A Few Things To The Watch Industry
The car industry has gone through some major restructuring over the last 20 years with the emergence of powerful groups leading to the consolidation of the industry. This has resulted in fewer brands, improved production processes, improved service to the consumer, and improved reliability and performance. Well, those are just some of the most visible consequences, but it is interesting to make parallels with what the watch industry is going thro...
