Throwback Thursday: In the August 2006 issue of Hardware Retailing, we featured Marvin's Building Materials & Home Centers and its CEO at the time, Boyden Moore. The company is now in its 70th year of operation and the current CEO is Darrin Gilliam. Marvin's operates stores in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee.

"One thing we try hard to do, that is missing in many retailers and restaurants, is a simple greeting. I think it all starts with that -- smile and greet the customer," Moore says in the 2006 article.

Check out the Mr. Oswald comic from February 1986! A salesman is pressuring Oswald Hardware Co. to switch brand loyalty.
Maybe you and your staff have encountered that pressure in similar ways. #mroswald

Have a case of the Mondays? Cheer up with Mr. Oswald, the cartoon character who debuted in the October 1927 issue of Hardware Retailer.

Check out the October 1927 comic strip here. Mr. Oswald had a rough day as an independent hardware store owner in that issue -- but haven't you had those days, too?

Hardware Retailing magazine is the hardware and home improvement industry’s leading trade publication
Introduction
Hardware Retailing magazine is the hardware and home improvement industry’s leading trade publication, which is published by the North American Retail Hardware Association (NRHA).

Distributed to more than 35,000 independent retailers across the U.S. and Canada, Hardware Retailing magazine covers hard-hitting issues many retailers in the industry face. Editorial coverage doesn’t stop at practical profitability advice. Content also includes up-and-coming new products from the industry’s leading manufacturers.

For retailers, it’s the best way to stay in tune to what is going on in the industry, and for manufacturers it’s the best way to get their product seen by the industry’s retail decision-makers.
