For the fifth year in a row, the University of Southern Indiana is offering a 50 percent match for Indiana employers to fund internship and co-op opportunities for USI students.

Dr. Zane Mitchell has accepted the position of dean of the Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education at the University of Southern Indiana. The announcement was made Tuesday, November 29 by Dr. Ronald Rochon, provost of the University, and is effective December 1. Mitchell has served as interim dean of the College since June.

For the eleventh consecutive year, University of Southern Indiana’s Southern Indiana Japanese School (SIJS) has once again received the School Award in Writing from the Japan Overseas Educational Services. The subsidiary of the Japanese Government’s Ministry of Education and Science awarded only 20 out of nearly 300 Japanese schools abroad.

The University of Southern Indiana’s McCutchan Art Center/ Pace Galleries will feature “PROCESS: Jenna (Citrus) Rueger, The 2016 Efroymson Bridge Year Fellowship Exhibit” from Wednesday, December 7 through January 16, 2017. A free and public reception for the artist will be held at 7 p.m. December 7.

Randy Best, chairman and founder of Academic Partnerships and Whitney University System, will be this year's speaker for the University of Southern Indiana Romain College of Business Entrepreneur’s Perspective Speaker Series. His presentation, “Entrepreneurship-A Way of Life,” will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 6 in University Center Room 2217. The event is free and open to the public.

The University of Southern Indiana Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program and the MPA Society will host a presentation by Brad Byrd, lead news anchor for Eyewitness News, at noon Monday, November 28 in Traditions Lounge in University Center East. Byrd’s presentation, “Getting it Right…Getting it Wrong,” is part of the MPA Speaker Series and is free and open to the public.

Engineering and physics students at the University of Southern Indiana have embarked on a mission-of-a-lifetime project designing the University’s first spacecraft to be placed into orbit by NASA sometime in 2018. The unit is a CubeSat, a miniaturized satellite known as a U-class spacecraft.

Indiana Senator Jim Tomes and State Representative Wendy McNamara presented Connie Weinzapfel, director of the University of Southern Indiana’s Historic New Harmony, with the Sagamore of the Wabash award at Historic New Harmony’s Advisory Board meeting in November.
