"Welp, Pokémon Go looks like a toy. Hell, it is a toy. But it’s also the first widespread, massive use case for augmented reality — even though it’s operating on smartphones that aren’t designed for AR. So what’s going to happen as the hardware improves, the software improves, and the architects learn to use these more immersive environments to addict us more fully?"

An original Darth Vader VR film from ILMxLab, written by David S. Goyer that is cannon & overseen by those at LucasFilm who are working on the current Star Wars movies. I'm not sure if it can get any bigger or more mainstream than this.

"The sense of presence isn't just a buzzword, and it's surprisingly very emotional. It can make you sad, and make you lean in, and make you feel for a character in a way you haven't before. In a way that you can't really do in any other medium. And it can scare you." - David S. Goyer

These early VR prototypes from Valve, working on what would become the HTC Vive, are absolutely amazing in how rough they were.

Chrome takes another step closer to supporting WebVR.
The Chromium team is working on several features to bring the web to VR. They’ve recently added an experimental flag at chrome://flags/#enable-vr-shell to enable a browser shell for VR. This allows users to browse the web while using Cardboard or Daydream-ready viewers.

They’ve also been working towards WebVR¹ support in Chromium and launched VR view² to help web developers embed VR content in their web pages. The team is just getting started on making the web work well for VR so stay tuned, there’s more to come!

Being able to see distant planets where no human has ever visited or likely to visit in our lifetime is I think one of the great examples of what virtual reality can be used for.

This is one of the best ads I've seen for VR to date. People get the concept immediately and see how cool it is.

If at this point you still think VR is a gimmick, or a fad, it’s either because you haven’t tried it at all, or you haven’t tried the right experience. Screenshots can’t do this justice. Video can’t do this justice. My words, no matter how descriptive and colorful and emotional I make them, can’t do this justice.

Pretty amazing live motion capture that looks like movie quality level but with Unreal Engine 4.

"VR is too important and too powerful a medium to be accessible to only a few."

He says that Google Cardboard obviously isn't the end of the line for Google as far as VR goes, but obviously won't say just yet what is next.
"VR is too important and too powerful a medium to be accessible to only a few." VR for everyone.
