Max's is literally the default everything spot. Weekend brunch, happy hour, late night name it. Probably because there's no wrong time to eat fried chicken coupled with a really good Malbec. I've likely visited Max's 15 + times since relocating to Houston 8 years ago and my experiences have largely been consistent with the exception of 2 or 3 times.

My husband and I went and I ordered the fired chicken, mash potatoes and greens. The greens and potatoes were good.. However the chicken was not done! When I cut into it blood was running out of the chicken on to my plate. The waitress didn't come check on us, I had to take my plate to her and let her know my food wasn't done. She told the manager who didn't come check on us until we said something .. The manager said it normal for them to sell chicken like that because they have veins... Ok, I have never in my life at chicken from a restaurant that served bloody chicken. After them bringing me a second plate.. The chicken was still blood! I asked her what kind on compensation would she provide and she said none! So we left! Never again will I waste my time at Max's Wine Dive on Washington Ave!!!!!

Max's is one of my favorite places for brunch on the weekends. The fried chicken is great and the "man-mosas" are pretty good.

Love taking out-of-towners to introduce them to chicken and champagne. If that's not your taste, ask the staff to recommend something be user everything there is amazing. Parking sucks, bring cash to valet.

Beware of the service here! My girlfriend went here for lunch with a coworker a few days ago and it took 40 minutes to get their food. The people at the next table over from them arrived after them and had received their food before them. She left no tip as they were now having to rush to eat and get back to work and nothing was comped. Half a week later now she found out through the bank that the server had helped himself to a $2 tip! Yeah, it's just $2 but that's a little shady! She went back to the restaurant and got her two dollars back, but no apology or explanation, nor did they even say they would talk to the server to make sure it didn't happen again. As far as the food goes, when I asked how it was, she said it was "just alright". Maybe your tastes will be different. Maybe the kitchen was having a bad day too, but make sure you check your receipts if you have issues with service here.

Good wine selection, marginal food, very noisy, good service, expensive...not for me even though you played Led Zeppelin. Sorry.

Good fried chicken but one waiter is horrible drinks while serving you and then HE forgets he has people to take care of.
