I have had every iphone since the first was released, at the beginning of the year i got my hands on a nexus 4 and really liked it, but didn't love it... too many little problems and sacrifices (my problems, were the volume to the music player was too low, it would take too long to reacquire a signal when coming out of the subway, etc.), but i saw the potential. i ended up going back to my iphone 5.

Apple released the iphone 5s but it left me a bit cold but i was going to buy it anyway (partly because my wife inherits my previous phone, partly because it is a known quantity) but of course the only way to get one of these phones this year is to wait on a line…. not happening. this was the first year i was just going to skip the upgrade and wait it out (i like having a spare phone in a drawer cause you never know). i walked into an at&t store on a whim, held up the note 3 (it had just been released). it is so damn big! i felt i would be over-compensating with this phone. i put it down and walked away. Went home, saw some reviews on it. put my jacket back on and went back to AT&T and picked it up in white (i find that white ages better and hides scratches better) Mind you, i don’t particularly like samsung for something like this. I feel samsung produces products quickly and cheaply, with the intent to sell it to you, once you’ve purchased it, the transaction is done between you and samsung, don’t bother them till you’re ready to buy another one., so for tv’s, appliances, yeah, I’ll buy samsung. but for a phone or tablet that relies on software, in a world where things get updated and the device gets a level of support for a reasonable amount of it’s life (like apple does)? I wouldn’t look at samsung.
That being said; this phone is great! people complain that samsung phones feel cheap, (mind you, it doesn’t feel as well constructed as an iphone), but it doesn’t feel cheap to me, that faux leather back is perfect, yeah its plastic but i can’t imagine that thing lasting, or being as thin if it were made of leather. I love…. LOVE, that i can replace the battery and expand the memory; i immediately added a 64gig sd card. I don’t carry my ipad mini with me anymore because it seems redundant and unnecessary. My kids love that, because that means there is one more ipad to access (4 in total). I don’t love most of samsung’s crapware and i don’t love how samsung hijacks the buttons for their software (that is to be expected). but i love going through emails with that huge screen, i love swiping my hand over the phone in the middle of the night to see the time, i love this phone…. Also, if anyone knows how to boost the volume of the music player just a smidge, i would be over the moon (even though i don’t think the sound quality is as good or loud as the iphone). anyway this is my meandering thoughts/rant on my galaxy note 3.

+Tom Towles I got the hyperion batteries immediately after i bought the note 3. they are pretty much as advertised. mine have the built in nfc. they hold a charge almost as long as the oem battery.

Does anyone have any experience with the Anker qi single charger? $50 is not a bad price, but after buying the Nokia charger and being utterly disappointed, I'm a little gun-shy.

ok. it's been a few days with the update, and i can say emphatically that the battery life is much improved. it is now acceptable.... not the best, but definitely not the worst. also i just discovered (and i mean not even 45 min ago by accident) that there is an equalizer in the setting for google music and while it doesn't improve the way too low volume of the music player it does improve the sound somewhat. i'll have to see if these settings are also in spotify.

Home finally. FYI for those with a Poetic bumper, the orb does not hold the nexus very well with the bumper in place. Let me just say for the record this bumper that people warned me about is not bad at all. They must have made changes to it because it is a fine bumper case.Easy to put on, easy to take off. Now. The charger, smaller then I thought. Not worth the money though. This is a 30-40 dollar item. It feels solid and well made. As others have stated it is made of a tacky material that along with the magnets will hold the naked nexus in place (I am guessing the nexus branded bumper as well) doesn't work so well with my n4 w/poetic bumper. It will charge, but the bumper keeps it from properly staying put. I think for a good number of people the energizer single charger is the way to go (if it charges at the same rate as this charger does.) set it and forget . No case to think about, just lay it down. Aesthetically this is a really nice charger, maybe not for everyone though.

I tried on the Galaxy Gear over the weekend..... not for me. it needs to be half as thick with battery life that is at least twice as long. I do kinda like the look of it..... but not for me..... yet.

OK. Anyone who's read my previous posts knows i have serious qualms with the N4's audio output or lack thereof. I bought two items to kind of rectify this. First was the Firestone fireye mini amp http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005WKJLT4/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . It pumped the volume up just enough that i am satisfied with the volume but also filled out the bass and mid range and really brought out the detail of my music. The great thing is that it is very small and doesn't encumber too much. of course having this plugged in takes away any kind of control the headphones may have (all of my headphones are apple compatible, so the control was minimal at beast, pause/play). So I also bought the satechi bluetooth media remote http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00824948U/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 , so now i keep the phone and amp in a pocket and control them from this tiny remote.  so far so good, though this is a bit much to get satisfaction (though i have to be honest, i wanted to get these for my iphone as well, though not for the same reasons).

I've had the wireless charger over the weekend. some thoughts: it is very small and charges only slightly slower (to me anyway) than plugging it in. The Poetic bumper case is not compatible with the charger. i think the edges are raised just high enough as to keep it from seating properly on the charger and letting it "stick". i have to remove the case for the phone to stick to the charger and even then every once in a while the phone slides down losing the "sweet spot".  i would have rather had a charger that you lay the phone down on and forget it. i like the charger and i will keep it but i don't think it was worth the $70 i paid (shipping, tax, and handling). anybody have experience with the impossible to find energizer single charge charger?

I agree on the sliding issue. There has to be a way around this. Also, charging by this dock doesn't seem to recognize the same as charging by USB. My screen won't stay on.

i'll find out soon enough, when i get home from work, but for those who have received their orb chargers (excluding Kitten Bootz cause UPS has it in for her) can you set the phone sideways to use it as a makeshift alarm clock? kinda curious.

my n4 was updated yesterday to 4.2.2.... the volume to my music is still unacceptably low. the battery life seems better but i don't know for sure. i'm at work now so i will know by the end of the day (if things haven't changed i'll know way before than).

UPDATE: yeah the battery life is much improved. the phone is now usable  it still isn't as good, batterywise as the phone it replaces, but it is harder for me to complain. good thing.
