I tried on the Galaxy Gear over the weekend..... not for me. it needs to be half as thick with battery life that is at least twice as long. I do kinda like the look of it..... but not for me..... yet.

OK. Anyone who's read my previous posts knows i have serious qualms with the N4's audio output or lack thereof. I bought two items to kind of rectify this. First was the Firestone fireye mini amp http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005WKJLT4/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . It pumped the volume up just enough that i am satisfied with the volume but also filled out the bass and mid range and really brought out the detail of my music. The great thing is that it is very small and doesn't encumber too much. of course having this plugged in takes away any kind of control the headphones may have (all of my headphones are apple compatible, so the control was minimal at beast, pause/play). So I also bought the satechi bluetooth media remote http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00824948U/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 , so now i keep the phone and amp in a pocket and control them from this tiny remote.  so far so good, though this is a bit much to get satisfaction (though i have to be honest, i wanted to get these for my iphone as well, though not for the same reasons).

I have had every iphone since the first was released, at the beginning of the year i got my hands on a nexus 4 and really liked it, but didn't love it... too many little problems and sacrifices (my problems, were the volume to the music player was too low, it would take too long to reacquire a signal when coming out of the subway, etc.), but i saw the potential. i ended up going back to my iphone 5.

Apple released the iphone 5s but it left me a bit cold but i was going to buy it anyway (partly because my wife inherits my previous phone, partly because it is a known quantity) but of course the only way to get one of these phones this year is to wait on a line…. not happening. this was the first year i was just going to skip the upgrade and wait it out (i like having a spare phone in a drawer cause you never know). i walked into an at&t store on a whim, held up the note 3 (it had just been released). it is so damn big! i felt i would be over-compensating with this phone. i put it down and walked away. Went home, saw some reviews on it. put my jacket back on and went back to AT&T and picked it up in white (i find that white ages better and hides scratches better) Mind you, i don’t particularly like samsung for something like this. I feel samsung produces products quickly and cheaply, with the intent to sell it to you, once you’ve purchased it, the transaction is done between you and samsung, don’t bother them till you’re ready to buy another one., so for tv’s, appliances, yeah, I’ll buy samsung. but for a phone or tablet that relies on software, in a world where things get updated and the device gets a level of support for a reasonable amount of it’s life (like apple does)? I wouldn’t look at samsung.
That being said; this phone is great! people complain that samsung phones feel cheap, (mind you, it doesn’t feel as well constructed as an iphone), but it doesn’t feel cheap to me, that faux leather back is perfect, yeah its plastic but i can’t imagine that thing lasting, or being as thin if it were made of leather. I love…. LOVE, that i can replace the battery and expand the memory; i immediately added a 64gig sd card. I don’t carry my ipad mini with me anymore because it seems redundant and unnecessary. My kids love that, because that means there is one more ipad to access (4 in total). I don’t love most of samsung’s crapware and i don’t love how samsung hijacks the buttons for their software (that is to be expected). but i love going through emails with that huge screen, i love swiping my hand over the phone in the middle of the night to see the time, i love this phone…. Also, if anyone knows how to boost the volume of the music player just a smidge, i would be over the moon (even though i don’t think the sound quality is as good or loud as the iphone). anyway this is my meandering thoughts/rant on my galaxy note 3.

+Tom Towles I got the hyperion batteries immediately after i bought the note 3. they are pretty much as advertised. mine have the built in nfc. they hold a charge almost as long as the oem battery.

Does anyone have any experience with the Anker qi single charger? $50 is not a bad price, but after buying the Nokia charger and being utterly disappointed, I'm a little gun-shy.
