This is my 3rd and final piece inspired by the fabulous Ishtar Gate of ancient Babylon; I only had one picture to go by when I created this but I tried to capture how it might have looked in its original splendour and hope you love it as much as I love it.
You can purchase this beautiful painting here- http://www.americanframe.com/artist/mike-sexton/flower-wall-of-istar-gate.aspx .  Now, if you’d like to get it as an 8 x 10 inch print,  contact me on here and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

There were many beautiful images painted on the Ishtar Gate & this is just one of them. They painted the Asiatic lion on several different locations of the Gate including the walkway when you entered the gate itself. This rendition of one of these beautiful lion paintings is in tribute to the ancient art masters who crafted this beautiful building.

I painted this piece to give two sides to the same story; basically it breaks down to the “glass is half empty; the glass is half full” mentality. In the background you see a rolling cloud bank that is coming towards the Antarctic Islands to block out the sun, as all clouds do- this could signify the extinction of life BUT in the foreground you have a pair of macaroni penguins in their breeding postures which signifies the renewal of life. It’s this renewal of life that gives us eternal hope; no matter how many cloud banks come towards us, if we do what’s necessary to keep ALL species alive and the chance for them to renew life, this will overcome all obstacles.

Set was an interesting god in ancient Egypt; on the 1 hand he represented chaos, destruction, storms but in the beginning he was also a very positive god; it was only later that he was turned more “evil” which in Egypt was a relative term since all gods had good/bad qualities. Why not have him represent the better side of the coin with this beautiful papyrus print featuring his symbol.

This wonderful Celtic knot is in honor of St. Patrick’s day but it doesn’t have to be Patty day for you to be able to have it in your home/office. I’ve blended traditional Celtic knot patterns as well as a new flavor of knots inside the clovers and have used wonderful serene shades of green, blue & gold to give this painting style that you can have on your walls all year round.

This double triquetra knot with a circle knotted into it symbolizes life is never-ending and everything we do will come full circle. It’s surrounded with a lovely chain knot and the Gaelic word “Sith” which translates to “peace”.
