THE BASICS OF SOIL.  Over the years working in gardening, I've realized that soil was the most important thing I learned in the Landscape Gardener program at Olds College.

Ladies: Do you have an AMAZING personal story about the healing power of nature? Did you experience personal transformation by tuning into nature and shutting out the distractions of the city? I’m looking for a few women who changed their lives and boosted their self-image by rejecting the complications of the city and connecting with nature. These stories will be featured in an upcoming ebook with the theme: NATURE THERAPY FOR BUILDING SELF-ESTEEM.

If you have a desire to inspire others to rediscover their authentic selves with your own dynamic story of healing in nature, please contact me by emailing your story to jennifer {at} homesteadmania {dot} com.

To start, I’ll need 3-4 paragraphs describing your journey. What your life was like before; describe the troubles you were experiencing (whether it was career, family, romantic, self-esteem, health); the thing that catalyzed you to get in tune with nature; what parts of your life you changed; the results you experienced by ‘re-wilding’.

I will contact you if your story is right for the ebook and we’ll powwow about using your story to motivate other women. I won’t be able to use all the fantastic stories in the book but they will all be shared on the www.homesteadmania.com blog.

By sending me your story, you are giving me permission to publish it in the ebook or the www.homesteadmania.com blog. All authors will be contacted before I publish.

THANKS!!!!

Story

Homesteader, Green, Frugal, Blogger
Introduction
I’m Jennifer Houghton.  At the age of 46 I moved out of the suburbs onto an acre of land in the British Columbia mountains.  I'm learning to be self-sufficient, grow my own food, and live amongst the pines.

Some might say I’m obsessed with frugality and living green.  I would say I have a mania for it.  Call me a Cheapskate Tree Hugger and I’ll thank yee for it.

I still have alot to learn about living off the land.  Along the way I’ll hobnob with experienced homesteaders, farmers, carpenters, plumbers, lumberjacks, herbalists, crafters, and cooks and share the learning with you.

My background includes Landscape Gardening, teaching yoga and fitness, working at a health food store, eating vegan, a lifetime of tinkering with tools, years of fiddling with Photoshop, a curiosity about alternative building methods, a love of furry creatures, and lots and lots of nature walks.

I hope to meet kindred spirits seeking something more meaningful, a sweeter relationship with the earth, and perma-dirty fingernails.
