A friend and I went to Fishtag for dinner and it was a little hard to find being that they are nestled between two brownstones. But once we found it and walked down the stairs, fell in love with the dim lighting and the exposed bricks. The ambience had a feel of a sexy dungeon. The menu is not set as a regular menu. It goes from a softer taste to stronger taste at the bottom which was different but intriguing. We sat in the back of the restaurant which was a nice open space. For appetizers we had a plate of their cheeses which was divine and had wines pairings on the menu. We had a bottle of Riesling and I had the mussels for dinner. My friend had the special which was fish in a lemon sauce that was out of this world. The wait staff was courteous and timely. We are planning on going back there very soon.

Exceeded reasonably high expectations. Just very solid and all around high-value experience. Service excellent and food well above average. Already booked next visit.

Had our thanksgiving meal here. The turducken was absolutely delicious - tender meat that is cooked evenly throughout, with a thin layer of crispy skin and topped with creamy gravy. The appetizer prawn brochette was to die for - it's like setting off a flavor firework in your mouth - so many different ingredients that go so perfectly together. The dessert was a bit of a mixed bag for me. While the walnut ice cream was great, I felt the apple pie was too tart for my liking (even the ice cream couldn't mask the tartness). That said, I'd definitely come back again and check out the rest of their menu!

Fish Tag interior is a perfect example of understatement and attention to detail. This choice for a minimalist yet comfortable aesthetic sets the stage the food to shine even more brightly as their adventurous menu of seafood from around he globe seduces you and perhaps a special someone. An unassuming sign greets only those with an intent to go to Fish Tag- I'm not sure how recently this restaurant opened but I've walked past it's location a few times in 2011 without noticing it. One you walk in, wood and brick and a hint of exposed steel embrace you. Although it sounds industrial, this setup was inviting as it was intriguing. Perhaps it's slightly nautical. The bar area was meticulously adorned with spotless wine and beer glasses. The main dining room is a bit more brightly lit, again with he focus on the food, which gets a well deserved spotlight, and perhaps it helps you also see your comrades enjoying the amazing meal. I would call this a spot where you bring someone on a third date or better: It is not dimly lit and will surely set you up for high expectations on your next date, so I'd try to make this one count! :) The menu has a varied mix of seafood options - from the menu alone we knew we wanted to return- and assists you with wine pairings along the way. It also has a pretty robust cheese, smoked fish, and charcuterie menu. So my guest and I ordered a prosciutto plate with olives and a grilled octopus salad to start. The food began to enchant...the prosciutto's savory slices melted in our mouths and lazily stood by for a luxurious aftertaste. The octopus was grilled to a higher standard indeed- just enough char to provide a crisp and flavorful exterior with a softened, fish-steak-like interior. The entrees romanced us. Enjoying great food together can be such a wonderful bonding experience. Both dishes were winners really- we ordered the swordfish steak which was seared and close to tartare. The veggies and crunchy kale/fennel beneath it (with a tasty sauce, i don't know which) complemented the textures and flavors of the lovingly prepared fish atop it. And the Chilean sea bass dish looked as stunning as it tasted thanks to a splash of vibrant orange that was an amazing butternut squash purée. You know that moment when a really good piece of food hits your tongue and before u even chew you're looking at your fellow diner like, "Holy damn this is amazeballs!" ? Yeah it was that good. We didn't try the desserts...but I'm sure they woulda left us satisfied & at the same time wanting more... But after a meal like we had, ya really just wanna hurry home and luxuriate ;) Definitely an unforgettable evening. --------- *Edit*: I have since been here several times, and although the desserts weren't as power packed as the mains and smoked dishes, everyone I've brought here has had an enjoyable food adventure here

A wonderful experience. Our hotel offered a few places but when they came back with generic options, we looked online and found this place close by. It wasn't busy, which made us wonder but the service and food were excellent. The smoked octopus was the best version I've ever had and the swordfish, the same; just fantastic.

Fishtag is a very cute, homey restaurant in UWS. Had Thanksgiving meal there for my first time at the restaurant. Staff was super attentive n friendly. They really made sure we had a good meal for Thanksgiving. When I was waiting for the restroom, every server passing by took the initiative to check if the restroom was really occupied. Love little gestures like that! The food was excellent. The grilled prawn, also a regular menu appetizer, really stood out with the flavor and generous portion. Will be back for regular menu soon!!

Brunch here is from 12-2pm. No crowed at all. The bourbon French Toast was well made. More importantly, for $16, and unlimited mimosas! Highly recommend this place.
