How To Not Rape

If the world made sense, I wouldn’t have to write this.

But the world doesn’t make sense. If it can happen that someone is raped because the rapist could not control their own urges, and the person raped is blamed for dressing in a certain way, thus letting the rapist off without paying for their crime, then the world definitely doesn’t make sense.

I mean, are we saying that we should forgive people because they can’t control themselves? So I can steal a car, and get away with it, because the car looked so good I couldn’t resist it?

Of course not.

But the law, in this respect, seems to value a car more than a human being.

A car can be replaced. The memories of rape cannot be wiped away.

So how do we teach people not to rape?

There are a few things I would suggest:

Better sex education. If young men and women are taught about sex, and it’s not considered a taboo, then the urges can be recognised for what they are before people act on them. Show these dumbasses how to rub one out for pity’s sake, rather than forcing themselves on someone!

Prostitution needs to be legalised. That way, should anyone get urges they can’t control, there is a source of release that is readily available, for a price. Having to pay for it might just encourage some deadbeat rapist to work, and become a productive member of society, rather than a burden on the state in jail.

Abolition of the “they were asking for it” defence. Unless someone walks up to a person and says “Come here and f*** me,” they’re not asking for it.

Stop making jokes about rape. Trivialising it makes it less evil, and will, I guarantee, make someone who has been raped feel as if they were the ones in the wrong.

Chemical castration should be considered as a punishment for any rapist who can’t control their urges. Can’t take the heat? We can fix that.

And most of all, we should not be blaming anyone who has been raped. Nobody chooses to be raped. Even fetishists do such things under controlled conditions.

If we form an anti-rape culture, then no rapist will ever think they’ll get away with it.

Thanks Johnny. The only thing that really appeals to me is seeing a chronological list of my posts in the event I shared something I forgot to bookmark. Aside from that it seems rather ho hum. As a marketer though I can see the benefit in this, and the more consumer information the better. Something about reminds of Myspace for some reason. I think it's the ability to heavily personalize your page to provide a cool factor. Not sure if that appeals to me, but I'm sure there is a certain demographic that will be all over it.

Stumbled across a show on HDNet last night called "Sex, God & Rock 'n Roll". WOW!!! This show, this guy (Stuart Davis) is absolutely brilliant! The show, the host/co-host, the writing, the themes, the music are all sexy, provocative, controversial, satirical and intelligent. Last night one episode had a segment called "Spirituality and Religion". I was pretty apprehensive as to how this would be covered but was pleasantly blown away! Not only is this guy intelligent, creative, funny, witty but a damned fine singer/performer who also has a powerful, striking physical presence. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I HIGHLY recommend tuning in for an episode Wednesdays and Mondays 11:00pm on HDNet. My only complaint...ONE major sponsor heavily promoted....which I have no doubt will change once more people come across this brilliant, creative and provocative writer/entertainer.

"Razor sharp improv. Lurking amid the minutiae of his observations on life and the Universe are some startling insights. Davis pulls off the most elusive of party tricks... Even the gods were grinning." -Irish Times, Dublin Ireland

"Without exaggeration, Stuart Davis is one of the most fascinating and exceptional songwriters in modern music." -San Jose Metro

"Davis may be the best songwriter you've never heard of." -Des Moines Register

"Not since Bob Dylan burst through has Minnesota produced such a confident and creative songwriter and social observer." -Minneapolis Star Tribune
