Stop comparing.

Stop complaining.

And START watering the grass you’re standing on!

What if instead of pushing so hard to make things happen every second, you decided to let go a little? What if instead of trying to always be in control, you sometimes surrendered control to something bigger than yourself? What if instead of working so hard to figure out every last answer, you allowed yourself to be guided to solutions in perfect timing?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: you absolutely need to do hard things to be happy in the long run. Because the hard things ultimately build you up and change your life. They make the difference between existing and living, between knowing the path and walking it, between a lifetime of empty promises and one filled with more possibility and progress.

Here are some general signs it may be time to let go:

1. You would rather avoid the reality in front of you. — Most people make themselves unhappy simply by finding it impossible to accept life just as it is presenting itself right now. Remember, a significant key to happiness is letting go of what you assume your life is supposed to be like right now, and sincerely appreciating it for everything that it is.

2. You are angered or agitated by your circumstances. — Being calm is a superpower that allows your mind to find solutions. Calmness is also a mental state of trust. Instead of overthinking or overreacting, you just surrender for a moment and allow yourself to breathe, which instantly gives you the upper hand in tough situations.

3. You feel the desire to revisit an old negative habit or situation. — Be firm about your decisions today. Don’t crawl back to old habits and situations that weren’t helping you grow. Just keep reminding yourself why you decided to move forward. Stay strong and positive about what’s to come by being consistent with what you know in your heart is right.

"If it entertains you now but will hurt you someday, it’s a distraction that's out of line with your values. Don’t settle. Don’t exchange what you want most for what you kind of want at the moment. Study your rituals and routines. Figure out where your time and energy goes, and remove valueless distractions. It’s time to focus on what truly matters most."

The mind is like a muscle, and just like every muscle in the human body, it needs to be exercised to gain strength. It needs to be trained daily to grow and develop gradually over time. If you haven’t pushed your mind in dozens of little, positive ways over time, of course it’ll crumble on the day things get overwhelmingly stressful.

The best way to start training your mind?

Affirmations. They are one of the simplest and most powerful tools for staying on track in life. A mind well trained with the right affirmations has the right thoughts queued up and ready for retrieval at a moment’s notice.
