Love love love Foreign & Domestic!!! Great funky Austin location, small, ever-changing menu of expertly prepared food. Fried chicken biscuit to really weird and delicious food! Check it out!

Chef driven cuisine at a charming bistro in North Austin. Love sitting at the counter to watch the chef's turning out some of Austin's finest. There are several special dinners each year featuring some of the best chef's in the country. Some you may have heard of and some not but if they have worked with Ned and Jodi Elliot, they are kitchen rockstars. Really a big fan of pastry chef Jodi and cannot wait on her new bakery to open soon.

So I originally heard that Foreign & Domestic served mostly offal (organs and other strange cuts of meats). This really turned me off to the restaurant, but a couple friends were moving out of town and they really wanted to meet here for a going away dinner. I was pleasantly surprised by the menu, but kind of surprised by the prices given the quantities of food. I know that North Loop is a hip and happening place, but I balked at some of the prices they asked for food that was decent. I would not say no to going here again, but I think I would be restrictive in what I ordered. Over all, the small plates and daily specials seemed much more interesting than the standard menu. It is worth a try, but I will not go out of my way to go back in the future.

I came to Foreign & Domestic for a small, unplanned birthday celebration and managed to skip the wait by opting to sit at the bar along the kitchen. This was a great opportunity to watch the controlled madness of a small kitchen preparing food for a popular restaurant. We started with several appetizers including the Split Pea Soup and House Charcuterie, the former of which was perfect for a colder night. We also ordered the Gruyere Popovers, which for some reason were delivered after our entrées. For my main dish, I went with the Pork, Baby Octopus, & Clam Brodo. While tasty, it wasn't anything to shout out loud about. It actually went really well with the popovers, so the late delivery worked in my favor. Overall the entire experience was a little disappointing after all the praise I've heard about Foreign & Domestic. The food was good but did not seem worth the cost compared to other similarly expensive Austin restaurants.

This place is casual and snug with truly awesome French preparations. But be advised that the menu is not compatible to vegetarians or fishitarians. Even the seafood stew had pork. Too bad.... Maybe things will be different in the future.

Really interesting food. I like that it's a very small place. I felt well taken care of. Delicious, relaxing meal.
