Trump is, to be sure, America's responsibility, and is not only having a profound negative effect on every aspect of life in the United States, but is also having an extremely damaging and endangering effect on the rest of the world. In response to the last commenter, Trump's actions are indeed the business of all concerned people in all nations. Trump's destructive, toxic words and actions effect us all. The pendulum can shift against him as strongly expressed world opinion adds to that of the increasing percentage of US citizens that is outraged by his presidency and committed to seeing it end, the sooner the better.

Questioning Donald Trump's qualifications and fitness to be President is nothing new. Even withholding judgment for a reasonable period of time, it now seems, after the first eight months, that there is ample evidence to set all doubt aside, and conclude that the man is woefully inadequate and incapable of serving the nation and its diverse population in an even minimally acceptable way. The last several months have presented case-closed proof: the man is a disaster as president, temperamentally, intellectually, and politically. He breeds conflict and division, with making attacks, insults, and threats on others being his characteristic way of responding when he is being challenged by an unmet need, implied criticism, or potential conflict. This commentary lays out some particulars, discusses the danger his presidency embodies, and the need to work toward the necessary change.

Trump's first seven months of his Presidency have demonstrated to many Americans, as well as others around the world, that he is clearly unfit to be President,  by reason  of his character, his experience, and his knowledge of the role required of him. In this commentary, a few international examples of his incapacity to handle his role in a responsible, professional, beneficial way are illuminated. Domestic examples could have as readily been chosen, but the point is clear: Trump is a risk and a danger to the well-being of the United States and to the World.

The concept of the American Dream is under attack in the United States. Through the election of Donald Trump, and the fraudulent nature of his campaign to Make America Great Again,  much of the progress the nation has made over the centuries of its existence, especially the social, economic, and human rights progress made during the past  50 years, is being threatened. He is reversing the American Dream, making it available to an increasingly small percentage of the population. This commentary discusses and gives some historical perspective to this reality.

The analogy of one's soul being sold to the devil, in exchange for the egocentric, illusive pursuit of being "great", was understated in presenting this commentary on the current political standoff at the crossroads our nation faces. It will, however, undoubtedly be clearly observed by most readers.  The path forward was also left undetermined, yet to be fully clarified and activated. The standoff is in flux, the outcome in doubt, the future of the nation and the well-being of its citizens at stake.

Our nation is currently standing at a significant crossroad in its political history, with Trump's election, proposed policy directions, and management style raising serious concern among Americans wanting to see the nation continue on the road our Founding Fathers attempted to lay out for the country, that of a progressive democracy on a different path than the more autocratic, restrictive societies they chose to leave behind in Europe. Trump's administration is presenting a serious roadblock to the continuance of much of the progress our nation has been making in this endeavor, and two powerful, opposing sides are now placing the nation at a serious choice point, reminiscent of the "standing at the crossroads"  moment music legend tells us was once stood upon by the great  blues musician Robert Johnson. This commentary discusses the crucial issues facing the US currently in deciding which road to take.

Some people have called the first three weeks of having Donald Trump as president a veritable nightmare. It has been chaotic, conflictual, erratic, highly disorganized and undisciplined, certainly not boding well for the next four years. Darkness has seemed to descend upon the White House, and to spread from there across the country. Not too unlike the solar eclipse that will occur later this year, for a limited period of time, but this period of political darkness will be of indeterminant length. How did it come about, and what will it take to bring back a return to rays of light again brightening the path so our nation can regain forward, positive, enlightened momentum toward a future we can be proud of, is the focus of this commentary.

The damage that Donald Trump is inflicting on the character, the image, and the values of the United States of America in just two weeks is enormous, devastating in effect, only hopefully not yet irreversible. A self-serving, ill-intentioned novice in the White House is casting his dark shadow over the nation, bringing about an eclipse of the hopes and high-intentioned qualities that were paramount in the founding and labored progress we have made since 1776. This post descriptively describes the reality, of the confusion, havoc, and uncertainty gripping the nation as it struggles with the will of a leader diagnosed by some professionals as suffering with incurable malignant narcissism. As he spreads chaos trying to satisfy his deranged ego, the nation struggles to find its bearing, steady the ship, and save its soul.

Bill Moyers, one of the most forthright and clear-thinking of America's journalists and political thinkers, could not be more accurately descriptive in calling the first week of Trump's rule "Trump's Destruction Derby". Like drivers not caring about the damage they cause, in fact the more the better, they are launching numerous frontal attacks on various groups and programs, seemingly disregarding the destructive effects of their assaults. Do they care about all the direct and collateral damage? Apparently not! They speak of "draining the swamp". What they are doing is more akin to igniting fires, threatening and scaring many elements cf our population. The public is protesting, trying to put out the fires, restore safe driving, curtail he damage. Hard to do when we have our own Evil Knievil of politics, or modern-day Nero, in the White House.

Trump's immigration policy is outrageous! It constitutes a frontal attack on the heart and soul of the very qualities that have made America great. The damage he is inflicting on the character of our nation, and on the respect we have held in the world community, is immeasurable. Will our Congress, and our Supreme Court, allow his fear-mongering and crass, self-serving, unenlightened opportunism, to destroy the very foundations of our nation. The general public is already outraged, the media is speaking out strongly, and Democrats are in full opposition. Will the Republicans in Congress hold true to blind party loyalty or place patriotism above partisan politics, finally, in an issue where the essentials of our democratic system are at stake? Their principles face a crucial test, with the well-being of the nation hanging in the balance.
