Mad Max: Fury Road is the most viciously original sci-fi action flick since, well... The Road Warrior.   #madmaxfuryroad #moviereview

Here's what I said about the CGI in the film: "Either the CGI has been kept to a bare minimum or it's so good that it dove-tails perfectly with all of the practical stuff. Either way, it's a win-win all around. As far as I can tell, the vehicle combats were lensed using the same techniques used for all the previous Mad Max movies. That is to say Miller put a real caravan of cobbled-together vehicles out on a salt bed somewhere and then instructed his actors to try and creatively murder one another."   As for the story it was no weaker than "Max finds a refinery, turns in a wounded scout for a reward, nearly gets killed on his own, comes back, drives the tanker, twist ending".  As for his lack of dialogue, Max has always been a classic laconic anti-hero without much to say. He's certainly no chatty Cathy in The Road Warrior. But, hey, to your point, different strokes and all that.

The last time I asked my social media "friends" for movie suggestions I somehow ended up watching Big Top Pee-wee. Who says you don't get what you ask for? Here's my autopsy...er, review. #moviereview
Every once in awhile I'll indulge in an insane game I call "Movie Review-lette", inviting social media friends to send me movie titles that they want me to review. Naturally a "be as kind or as cruel as you want" disclaimer a...

To hell with snobbery; everyone should have #Carcassonne in their collection! #boardgaming
Sadly I live too far away from my parents to visit them around Easter but Cheryl's mom is reasonably close by. As a result I've introduced her to a lot of different board games over the years and she's grown into quite the pa...

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is the #1 reason why I'm so hard on these recent J.J. Abrams reboots. #startrek #moviereview
There's a very good reason as to why I'm so hard on the J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot flicks: I saw The Wrath of Khan in theaters as a kid and it set an impossibly high standard for everything to follow. Possessed of a solid s...

I had a poster on my wall that looked a lot like this as a kid. I'd sit and stare at that sucker for hours. ‪ #startrek #enterprise #lifebeforetheinternet

I had something like this as well and would study it for hours, too. As far as I'm concerned every Enterprise has been beautiful, but this one is the ultimate.

I was so impressed by  Star Wars: Imperial Assault, it inspired a new episode of "What's In The Box?!?"  #starwars #starwarsimperialassault #boardgames #unboxingvideo #review

For me, playing #Catan is the #Boardgaming equivalent of putting on a comfy pair of slippers. #review
Picture it: Halifax, Winter, 1997. Your humble narrator is an unrepentant, hardcore, twenty-seven-year-old collectible card game addict, buying Magic: The Gathering and Star Wars Customizable Card Game boosters and singles li...

After playing the cardboard version a few times, I bought the (android) game a few days ago, and have been playing it slightly obsessively ever since.  Good game.

Elysium might be preachy and CHAPPiE might be uneven but District 9 is still a masterpiece.
Back in 2009 I wrote the following about Neill Blomkamp's feature-length debut: "Mark my words: District 9 will go down in film history as one of the most important sci-fi movies ever made. It's the best genre film I've see...
