Where To Stay In Leeds

Leeds has the second highest population of any local authority in the UK, behind only Birmingham, and now with a bustling city centre and numerous other attractions, there’s loads of great accommodation options for visiting. Whatever you fancy, or whatever your budget, there’s something for you!

Budget Hotels and Hostels

There are plenty of budget hotels, particularly around Leeds-Bradford Airport, but if you’re looking for something more central, try the Art Hostel in Kirkgate. All the rooms are artfully furnished (a given, perhaps, with the name) and prices start at £22.50 per night in a dorm. There’s a Russell Scott Youth Hostel too (new here http://www.rshostels.co.uk ) , (c£55 per night)… but does come with a great complimentary breakfast!

There’s also a Travelodge (from £36 per night) and ibis Budget (from £24 per night) for lower spend stays. The best deals are always available in advance, so book as early as possible to stay on a shoestring.

Chain Hotels

As with any burgeoning big city, Leeds has a plethora of chain hotels for you to choose from if you’d like a stay consistent with your other travel experiences. Holiday Inn Express (from £50 per night) is in the city centre on Kirkstall Road, there’s two Premier Inns (from £45 per night) and Doubletree By Hilton (from £59 per night) is on the river. Chains do get quite booked up, though, particularly around big events and occasions, so be sure to book in advance!

Staying In Luxury

The Dakota Deluxe Hotel has a real modern elegance with rooms and suites available year-round as well as a bar and grill on-site. Rooms start at £113. There’s also two sets of notable luxury serviced apartments in Leeds: The Chambers (starting at £140 per night) and The Bells (starting at £195 per night). Most upmarket hotels in Leeds can be booked at a discounted rate if done in advance, so get your plans together early to grab a bargain!

Somewhere a bit different…

In this day and age, many people opt not to stay in a hotel and instead flocks to websites such as Airbnb for a different experience. Leeds is no different! Options on Airbnb include a graffiti-sprayed and themed room in a house, a glamping pod in a field, a converted school dormitory, a woodland cabin and a shepherd’s hut! Similar websites such as Flipkey, HomeStay and HomeAway also offer you the opportunity for you to stay in someone else’s house while they’re away. What better way to experience Leeds like a local than to really live in it?

Wherever you choose to stay in Leeds, be sure to look it up in advance for availability and ideally book before you travel. If you do get stuck, visit the Tourist Information Centre at The Headrow, LS1 3AA. They’ll be able to advise you on a range of accommodations options as well as places to visit, eat, drink and shop!

Where To Stay in Sheffield

Sheffield sits on the River Sheaf in the eastern foothills of the Pennines, and is known as ‘The Steel City’. A favourite with students and sports fans alike, there’s loads of reasons for you to visit – but where should you stay? Thankfully there’s loads of accommodation options!

Budget Hotels and Hostels Sheffield

To nail your Sheffield stay on a shoestring, there’s a few cheaper options that’ll put a roof over your head and serve their purpose nicely as somewhere to grab a few z’s.

A short walk out of the city, you’ll find QuickStop Hostel which offers beds in shared dorms, with discounts available for group bookings. There’s also a Russell Scott Youth Hostel in Sheffield city centre which gives a free breakfast, tea and coffee with every booking, and beds start from £50.

Chain Hotels

As with any major city, there’s lots of chain hotels in Sheffield for you to choose from if you prefer a more mainstream stay. Novotel offer rooms from £45, Premier Inn from £59 and Mercure from £70. Hampton by Hilton can be booked from £49 if done far enough in advance and the popular Jury’s Inn is a city centre gem with rooms from £50. Lots of chains have more than branch in Sheffield, so be sure to check before you book exactly where you’re going to be!

Staying In Luxury

There aren’t a great deal of 5-star options in the city of Sheffield itself, but the suburbs and countryside around it offer a touch of luxury. Brocco On The Park, to the South West of the city, hosts Scandinavian-chic rooms that start at £100 and is highly acclaimed by travel writers and reviewers. The Norfolk Arms, in the village of Ringinglow, is a small but perfectly formed hotel with a hybrid feel of pub-meets-luxe. Popular with weddings, rooms and suites cost about £105 on a B&B basis. The Copthorne Hotel is nice and central with two dining options and spacious rooms starting from £75.

Somewhere a bit different…

If you’d like to explore the city of Sheffield from a base that’s a little less traditional, there’s lots of accommodation in the centre and further afield. From luxury penthouse apartments to garden flats, Sheffield residents in all quarters of the city offer out their homes while they’re away for holidaymakers and visitors to stay in. Airbnb’s options for Sheffield include studios, duplex apartments, annexes, warehouse conversions and shared homes.

If you’d prefer to be ‘at one with nature’, you don’t need to travel far to find the great outdoors. Fox Hagg Farm Campsite hosts tents and caravans, Fanshaw Gate Farm is a dedicated Caravan Club site and Swallowholme Camping and Caravan sits in the middle of the picturesque Hope Valley.

Sheffield is growing all the time, so check online for recommendations, reviews and new openings before you travel.
