Project-Based Learning is such a great asset to any content.  I did a project this year and the students loved it because they connected with the experience of working through it.  It's also great because it engages all types of learners.  It was dialogue between partners, hands-on problem solving, a writing component, and independent work.  It's a little more time consuming up front, but the end result is worth it.

With most lesson we do they have the time to "Think, Pair, Share" different ideas.  Then I ask them, "How many ways can we solve this problem?"  It incorporates the read, draw, write philosophy and allows for deeper discussions and high order thinking.  It also helps students express what they are thinking and hear different ideas that they didn't think of.
