Meet KIMBERLY BRYANT, the founder and CEO of Black Girls CODE. Bryant founded Black Girls CODE in 2011 to teach girls ages 7-17 from underrepresented communities skills in computer programming and technology. The nonprofit has trained more than 8,000 girls and now has 13 chapters across the U.S. and one in Africa.

“I feel strongly that some of the innovation that will happen over the next 10, 20 and 30 years, are things we can only imagine. The industry is changing so quickly that if we don’t get this generation immune, and the generation that will follow trained to create and use technology as a tool, they’re going be left behind,” says Kimberly Bryant

UrbanGeekz has launched a visual project to celebrate multicultural innovators from across the globe.

The portrait series, which kicks off today, celebrates Black and Latinx trailblazers — those that have traditionally been underrepresented in the tech and innovation economy — making waves in their respective fields, from startup founders to corporate highflyers in the technology industry

‘Celebrating Diverse Innovators’ comprises photographs and snippets of media interviews with the subjects. The profiles will be published on Thursdays throughout the summer across UrbanGeekz’s social platforms.

Keith Wilson has successfully worked his way up the corporate ladder. The Clark Atlanta MBA graduate rose through the ranks at Ford to become a marketing manager in Shanghai, China. Then in 2017, he secured an executive role at Georgia Power where he’s now responsible for developing innovative growth strategies.

“My path was non-traditional,” Wilson says of his six-year stint at Ford. “I moved up the chain really quickly that’s because I was able to do a lot of great work and get noticed for it. I was rewarded with more complex assignments. I had a lot of great mentors and sponsors who took a chance on me.”

Now, Wilson is using his wealth of experience to place a bet on his brand. He has launched his very own mobile app, Kompass Events, which allows users to share, discover, and explore events. The app’s users, which form the ‘Kompass Kommunity’, share with each other the events they wish to attend. Once posted, users can engage in the events by checking in, rating the event, posting pictures and comments in real-time.
