Fun article about the differences between Beaver Island and Mackinac Island. Both are wonderful in their own special ways. #beaverIsland   #mackinacisland   #islands
An old-timey spot that draws tourists versus a quieter, rustic island.

Very nice place. A lot of character. Just know it is an old building - small rooms and thin walls and floors. View from the massive front porch and dinning room was great. Service was wonderful.

I enjoyed the stay here. The best part was the included free breakfast. The breakfast was one if the best I've never had at a hotel.

The staff is friendly, efficient and helpful! We stayed on the 4th floor and climbed many flights of stairs, however, we considered the exercise good for us! The room was quaint, the bed comfortable and the air conditioning wonderful. The best part of our stay was the dining room! The food was impeccable, creative, well-presented and scrumptious! It is definitely a FIVE STAR dining experience. We cannot wait to return!

The room was great and the view is amazing. But that's where it ends. No lobby and to get to your room you kind of have to go down a back ally to get there. You are basically staying in an apartment (i mean really, there's even a washer and dryer). And the outside of the building is a little rough. Over all it was a quite and present stay.

Great hotel but you should really come here in the evening for s'mores. The front desk sells packets with marshmallows, crackers and Hershey bars, and you (the kids?) can roast them over the fire pits outside, while enjoying the view.

My wife and I were married on the veranda at the Island House Hotel in July 2008. My wife stayed two nights in a room and I only one. The rest of the time on Mackinac Island we spent on our boat in the harbor directly in front of the hotel. Our experience with the hotel was wonderful and memorable as a wedding, reception, and wedding night should be. Understanding that the hotel is a very old building (historic), the rooms are very nicely decorated and very clean. The staff was outstanding, especially Carol H. who handled our entire wedding plans while at the hotel. We left there by boat and spend our honeymoon in the St. Mary’s River system, Sault Ste. Marie, and Lake Superior. If your looking for a modern hotel, this is not the place. But if you want quaint, clean and friendly the Island House is a beautiful place on a beautiful island.
